Hi all, anyone know of a place where i can get fake glass like bottles and wine glasses that i can break safely? I have a scene where a teen drops a wine glass in the bathroom and falls to the floor.
Thanks

Re: Safe glass to break

Find a theatrical supply store and get some "sugar" glassware.

Hee hee hee...ran a show once in which a character had to break a bottle over his own head at the end of one scene.

On the last performance, I filled the bottle with water.

Denis picked up the bottle...and froze...slow take, up to the booth where I was running the lights. OH, such a look he gave me. ;D

The audience loved it.

Re: Safe glass to break

These are perfect. So im guessing since they are sugar you cant really fill them with anything for too long.

Holy Crap look the the prices..
Thanks

Re: Safe glass to break

If you have you break a bottle over someone's head--you *need* breakaways. If a character is just dropping a glass, you can just buy some *thin* inexpensive wine glasses and use some caution.

Get them locally if possible, because they can easily break in shipment.[/quote]

Why am I finding this funny? :)

Re: Safe glass to break

I filmed a stuntman get his head chopped 1/4 off from a piece of bad safety glass that cracked wrong. Scariest thing I have ever seen.

Same feature, different stunt day, I picked up a piece of sugar glass and cut my finger open.

Point being.. be careful. I dont get near the stuff anymore.

Re: Safe glass to break

I need to get a shot of something flying through a glass window. Does anyone know where I can get a HUGE sheet of the sugar glass stuff. Also, anyone have good ideas for keeping saftey in, because I would be horrified to experience what Jarred saw.

Re: Safe glass to break

Hey, make your own. I have a recipe for making sheets and bottles out of sugar glass on the stove. Do I know where to find it? Course not. But Google "sugar glass recipe" and there's a buncha hits. The Net is so-o-o-o great. Making bottles and other stuff is more complicated as you need to do some mold making, but it all seems fairly easy. And, you can eat the product, well, maybe not.

Have fun! Save Expenses! Make Money by making sugar glass! Full kit only $11,995.95! Sweet Deal! Nyuk nyuk!
