Sadly, DVXuser.com has become but a shadow of it's once vibrant self.

It has become a harbor for the never ending repetition of questions that have been asked and answered far too many times before.

I will try to pop in occasionally, but DVXuser.com, has had it's day.

I think we need PK back and the rest of the missing crew whoever they are. Gee, wheres, Hillcity, Muirboda, Dakotapod, Young H Lee, Antomic, etc.

Pookie, we need to combind our powers... :)

every site is like that... people come and go.. whats old to you is new to me...

people will ask questions over and over... its the law of the internet.. :p

I think everyone has kind of gotten busier making films; which is a good thing, but there is defianately some missed fun around here.

There was a time when I could sit at work all day long, and always have something new to read. Now I actually have to try to find something to do. It sucks.

But I'm not leaving. No way.

I think everyone's making all their posts in the HVX section (being slightly big news and all). But being our resident Luddite, pookie, I'm sure you can spice THAT conversaion up!

And as John said, I'm sure quite a few are shooting, getting ready for NAB, etc..

Hey Horse, I know what you're saying. If I start getting productive around here they're going to start *expecting* it from me. Gotta spread the goods throughout the year, right?

I hope John's right, that people are out there making films. But if so, it would be nice if they'd come back and share their newfound knowledge and experiences with us.

DVXuser.com reminds me of a bar called Yesterdaze in my old college town of La Crosse. Back in the early- to mid-90s it was a haven for freaks and punks and debauchery of all kinds. Crazy **** happened there and the jukebox was the best in town.

But then something happened. "Punk" became something people tried to be, strived to be. Specifically, jocks wanted in on the action. Certain types just don't mix. That's why they had their bars, we had ours. So they came in with their mainstream sensibilities, started fights and basically turned our refuge into poserville.

I can almost see the old-school crew, sadly walking backward away from our communal venue of acceptance as if watching it burn to the ground. And the camera of my mind's eye pulls in tight to reveal their confusion and disappointment and then as it goes wide, they're all wearing new clothes and some of them are holding the hands of toddlers, others briefcases. They sigh, turn, and walk away.

Though there's still the faction of die-hard faithful riding the bandwagon to the end of its line where, presumably, hopefully, the trendy masses disembark and the remaining few are free to revive the scene, most of us are too far displaced to even care anymore. If they succeed, maybe some of us will rejoin them to celebrate.

We retain our memories and lingering emotions, impressions of the fun times now gone. But still I occasionally wonder, "Where did all the cool punks go?"

THis is still my first choice for info and conversation. But, as Hudson pointed out, I am busy in pre-pro for both a doc, and a short this summer. I'm also finishing a novel and learning some new software.

Oh, then there's the wife and kids too...

That's a beautiful and depressing image....

Hey! I like it when new people ask old questions. I read the answers figuring sooner or later the stuff will stick in my head and I won't have to think about it...it'll just come naturally.

Plus, there is always the possibility that someone will provide a new take on a particular answer.

It would be nice if there was a FAQ that housed the most common questions and their answers.

I realize people can search, but I fear most people never use the search (as a side note the search feature used to be pretty anemic, but in this latest verison of the site it is actually pretty great).

I agree with Pookie. By the way, anyone know what that clunk sound is in my new DVX when I move it back and forth?

this website is full of information that is relevant and usefull. I can't believe that I posted for a real dp 3 days ago and got not one response.

Yeah, I know what it is: This is a little known, and well kept secret, but inside each camera is a little man about 5 cm tall. And it is his job to operate the camera. So when you press the zebra key he has to run to the LCD and draw on those lines really quickly, and then when you press the zoom lever he runs over and moves the lens. Well, here's the bad news, that clunking sound you hear means that you have used you camera too much and you've killed that little man. His body is now rolling around inside of the camera.

BTW, if he is all dead there is nothing that can be done, but if he is just mostly dead I know someone who can fix him. He lives in the forest and hates Prince Humperdink.

But if he is all the way dead, then open up your camera look through his clothes for loose change.

You are witnessing the birth of a new generation of DVXusers. If all the experienced long term members go there will be a great void of knowledge that can never be filled. You guys made this site what it is, that's why you are Platinum members, you have learned the tricks of the DVX, hang around & see what this generation finishes as.
