Sachler Tripods.

I use Sachler tripods at work and love how you can fully extend the legs and if that isn't enough you can raise the center column up in the air to really have the camera up above. Now like I said I use these at work with a ENG camera. I am wondering if they make one for a MiniDV camera. Any other tripod companies have anything like that? Sometimes I don't even raise the legs, I just raise the center column part. Either way it works out!

I am using a Cartoni Action Pro tripod now but that thing doesn't go high enough for my tastes...I might end up selling it. I have only used it twice since buying it last July!

Re: Sachler Tripods.

Sachtler DV tripods do not have a center colume. I have the DVII that ROCKS but it does not go very high. Maybe 6 feet! 8)

Re: Sachler Tripods.

Hi Shooter, the new DV1 is made for small miniDV cameras, but it too has no center column.

In fact, no Cartoni, Miller, or Vinten I know of does either. I used to have access to a large older Sachtler that had a pneumatic center column, and we would do jib shots with it, because it was THAT smooth. However, I haven't seen any of the new models that do that, especially for miniDV uses. The only tripod I know and sell heavily with a geared center column is the 3046 and the 3246 from Bogen.

Re: Sachler Tripods.

I totally forgot about that Bogen! I saw someone using those when they were shooting a Tito Jackson concert. They had the legs all the way extended and then they raised the center column all the way up as well. Now how sturdy are those legs or the whole tripod for that matter? I paid almost $700 for my Cartoni that only goes close to 6 feet. As for price the Bogen seems like a good choice but are they sturdy?

Re: Sachler Tripods.

I have a 3046... it's a pretty solid set of sticks... not perfect, but usable. And the center column is nice to get extra height.

Re: Sachler Tripods.

It's sturdy enough for small camcorders. Heavier cameras = less steadiness when the center column is extended.
