Sabathia ? Over Beckett ? Huh ?

Sabathia - 19 Wins (in 34 Games started), Beckett - 20 (in 30 games started)
Sabathia - Stikes out 209 (in 241 Innings), Beckett - Strikes out 194 (200 innings)
Sabathia - Earned Runs 86, Beckett - Earned Runs 73
Sabathia - 94 Runs, Beckett 76
Sabathia - 238 Hits, Beckett - 189 Hits

Beckett kills Sabathia twice in the AL championship series and goes 4-0 with a 1.20 ERA in four postseason starts, striking out 35 and walking two.

Sabathia was 1-2 with an 8.80 ERA and 13 walks in three playoff outings.

October doesn't count, but huh ? It was close but I can;t see giving it to Sabathia. Beckett is the first 20 game winner since 2005.

As much as I hate Beckett (I am still hurt over what he did to the Yankees when he was a Marlin), he was my pick for the Cy Young.

That being said, Sabathia technically was the better pitcher.

The numbers you are not looking at include that Beckett received 6.2 runs in support to Sabathia's 4.6, the innings pitched, the fact that Sabathia was facing off against Verlander, Santana, Meche & Buhrle, Sabathia's 4 complete games versus Beckett's 1, and most importantly the overall innings pitched plus the four extra starts.

Now, while Beckett was dominate during October, the votes for Cy Young are cast prior to that and going into this season everyone predicted that the AL Central was going to be the toughest division in baseball and Sabathia was the ace in that division. Beckett had a great year, but Sabathia was just better overall.

Beckett is creating a hell of a case for one of the best post season pitchers of all time though, we'll see what he can do with the next couple of years and whether the injury bug (he has that blister problem) bites him again.

The whole:
Sabathia was 1-2 with an 8.80 ERA and 13 walks in three playoff outings.
doesn't matter; votes are cast prior to the post season and that is why there are awards like the ALCS MVP & WS MVP.

So do I agree? Nope... but is he a good Cy Young winner? Yeah, the numbers and what he did completely support it. He pitched almost 20% more innings, that's a horse who can carry your team. 240 innings is incredible for this day and age of the pu$$y pitchers who barely go 6 and call it a day.

EDIT:

And the voting wasn't close... Sabathia was a land slide winner.
