S X El Capitan, what's the verdict?

Hello,

I'm still on 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion), and was wondering if upgrading to El Capitan was worth it?
By worth it, I mean are you noticing any speed improvements as Apple claims?

Also want to make sure it's still compatible with legacy versions of Premiere (CS6) and Final Cut 7, as I
still use those frequently.

Also holding back, still on Yosemite. Been burned in the past when updating the OS which makes me hesitant to try El Capitan.

My 2 cents:

Why not create a partition or get another hard drive with Yosemite loaded to that. Use dual OS.
FCP 7 is about 5 years old and is designed to work with older OS versions. Keep it there if you rely on FCP 7.
Move to FCP X if you want to go to El Capitan.
As time goes on more gremlins will creep into FCP 7 as Apples OS evokes.

If it isn't broke don't fix it. I am also running 10.8.5, I only upgraded because Plural Eyes would not work below that. After the upgrade I had many issues which I have finally straightened out. If this system is just for editing then don't do it, wait till you get a new system to replace then its a must. You will not see any speed, 10.8.5 is already a 64bit OS, so its up to the hardware and software architecture to help.

Remember THEY MAKE OS UPGRADES for a reason, and its not to make your computer any faster, its to weight it down with new features that require you to get a faster computer.

So wait till you get a new system, then it will have the newest OS. I too have been looking, this will be my last Mac as when they dropped all their support for Final Cut pro versions and went to all app based. My next will be a PC, due to the fact that its a modular design. So I am saving my pennies, till then I just sit and know my editing system will work when I get a job that must go out, and not have to figure why it do-sent work after an OS upgrade.

Just my 2 cents worth.
