So I saw the "continuation" to the Donnie Darko saga known as S Darko recently. I think it was a straight to DVD film.

It wasn't by Richard Kelly, which surprised me a bit, as I didn't think someone else would try to continue it.
Now here's the thing about the film. I love Donnie Darko, and I heard about this thinking "hmm, are they going to ruin it?" But the approach they're taking is not trying to copy donnie darko, but just create another story in the universe, and that's why they call it a "continuation" rather than a sequel.
Now when I finished watching it, I decided that I didn't like it all too much. It didn't capture what I enjoyed about Donnie Darko - The disturbed high school kid, the messed up urban town, the mystery of Roberta Sparrow, etc. Also, at times, it felt like it was trying to copy Donnie in ways it shouldn't have been, but rather they should have taken a different spin with the time travel idea. But it had it's original moments...
However, I seem to be thinking about it more and more. It's been sticking with me. I like those wierd tales, and this one was wierd for sure. So I would say it had it's good parts and it's bad parts.
I like that they kept the girl playing Samantha the same from the original Donnie Darko. I would have thought they would have taken someone different. She did a decent job, and she's very beautiful grown up now. It's too bad they didn't bring back Elizabeth Darko (Maggie Gyllenhaal), they wrote her out of the story, saying she grew up, had kids, left the family behind.
Anyone else seen it? I recomend it on a rainy day if you're a fan of Donnie Darko, just don't expect much.
