?'s ABOUT DVD STUDIO PRO 3

1. What do I need to do to keep my FCP 24PA project 24P throughout the exporting process to DVD? I was that I needed this software to produce 24P DVD's.

2. I just got DVD SP3 the other day, however I have about 8 short projects that are already completed and saved on my external drive. Some of the projects are normal 24P and others I had to remove the pulldown in FCP. Can I put both on the same DVD? 24P projects and 24PA projects?

3. Since I won't be exporting from FCP because the projects are already completed and saved on my external, is it just a matter of importing those projects into DVD SP3 like I would with iDVD and build my menus and so forth?

Re: ?'s ABOUT DVD STUDIO PRO 3

YEah -- dvd players won't care. That's the point. Just burn it. No need for any additional conversion.

Good luck,

Take your 23.98 project from Final CUt Pro and export out an .m2v file using Compressor. In your Compressor options, you can make the .m2v final output 24p. You then bring this into DVDSP3 and continue from there.

Yes , you can, although the 24p files will be encoded with the 3:2 pulldown in it already whereas the 24pa files can be encoded as true 24p. You can bring your 24p projects into Cinema Tools and reverse the 3:2 pulldown to recreate the original 24 fps but you will incur a slight amount of degredation due to recompression.

You can ... but I would bring them into Compressor first so you can do what I stated above.

Hope this helps,

That slight amount of degradation you spoke about above, it is enough to be really noticeable to the average viewer? I know people like us look at the screen with a critical eye! ;D

On a TV screen, I don't think it would be noticeable.

Im a little confused now. Your saying I export from FCP to Compressor. Once in compressor go into options (I don't have an options tab, just have presets) Now is MPEG 4 24P the same thing as .M2V because that is what I saw there. I didnt see anything that said .m2v or final output 24p.

Once you are done with your final edit (which should be in a 23.98 sequence), export out from FCP using compressor. In Compressor, here is what you should do:

1. Make a duplicate copy of the MPEG-2 60 min High Quality Encode folder (it has 2 presets in it)
2. Go into the copy of the MPEG-2 file set you just crerated (leave the DVD PCM Audio Copy alone)
3. In the MPEG-2 file set copy, under the Encoder section, change the Video Format from Automatic to 24p. You would change the Aspect Ratio to 16:9 only if you worked in true native 16:9.
4. There you go! Save the copy and use that new preset folder to encode your video and make a 24p .m2v file that you can then bring into DVDSP3 and make a progressive scan DVD.
5. Make check payable to me for advice :-)

Hope this helps,
