Oleg, I know you know the answer to this: What is the major differences between use a furry thing on your mic to kill wind noise or using a blimp shield thing?

Re: Rycote Softie vs. Windshield

the diference is that i hate one motre then the other :-)
the ZWPPWLIN ALLON HAVE MUCH BETTER TRANSPARANCY THEN THE SOFTIE , WITH THE FUR IT HAS BETTER PROTECTION FROM THE WIND BAMPS, THE WIND NEVER DYRECTLY HIT THE MIKE .
OTHER HAND FOR ENG STYLE , WHENE YOU HAVE TO GO FROM EXTIRIOR TO INTERIOR QWICKLY - THE SOFTY SYSTEM IS MUCH BETTER OPTION
THE RYCOTE SOFTY SUSPENSIONS - SAKS 9 AND EVERY YEAR YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE RUBBER _60-70 $ , TRY TO FIND SOMETHING ELSE
I USE OLD LIGHTWAVE SYSTEM FOR THAT METTER , SOME OTHER USE AT ADAPTOR

Re: Rycote Softie vs. Windshield

Basically it's simple.

Rycote (type) windshields are for on camera mics.

Blimp systems are for hand held or boom pole systems (not on camera).

Re: Rycote Softie vs. Windshield

thats complitly not true , the zeppelin cant be plased over the small camcorders ( beta digital is also small) , but more then ones i sow zeppelins atteched to big lence cameras for sport and car racing aplications
the softy can work on camera and boom 9 and even i prefer this style on run and gun shotes ,
for quality and transparency in drama , the zeppelin is much better choice

Interesting. So(lets say I only can buy one for now)the Rycote(softie, furry thing) would be the better overall option? What do you use on your mics?

Re: Rycote Softie vs. Windshield

For now, I use a ME-66(I hear the boos already--everybody's 1st, right?), but I'm getting an MKH416 for my next film which I shoot in February, and hopefully a Schoeps by summer. Thanks for the link! Pookie, what does your "boomstick" set-up comprise of(pole, mic(s), shockmount, etc)?

Re: Rycote Softie vs. Windshield

if you intend to work 100% on the boom and not the camera - so the zeppelin - if you are going to place in both places , buy the softie
