Rycote BBG & Jammer for Oktava...

Just ordered an MK012 from the sound room and trying to figure out all the accesories I need to get. From my understanding the Rycote BBG is a must as well as a jammer.

My question is which size BBG do I get? At EVS, they have a 20, 22, and a 25mm BBG. Which one would work best for the Oktava?

Secondly, in regards to getting the jammer, I always read "...get a Rycote BBG and a Jammer..." I have found tons of different Rycote wind jammers but I think people are referring to this one, the Rycote BBG Jammer...

Is this true? or should I be looking at a Jammer that covers the entire mic plus shock mount?

I am also planning on getting an K-SSM (w/soft bands). I have read this works great with the Oktava but do I need anything else (some small mount, shoe mount, thread, ect) to mount the SSM to a boom pole?

Okay...last question... I'm also going to purchase an AT4073a. Mount wise, I figure I can still use the SSM, but I'd appreciate if anyone has a specific windjammer they can recommend for use with that mic.

Thanks in advance for any help, it's much appreciated.

what were the answers, I too bought a oktava but went with the 50$ wind protector from sound room is that acceptable

I think of going the $50 protector also..since I plan on using the Octava for indoor use only. Besides that windjammer thing to me is more of a hinderence and might interfere with the video if it drops to low into the frame.

If you can post the answers, Im curious to know as well. I know the 50 dollar one from sound room is suitable. Im in prospect of ordering wind stuff as well for oktava. And if shoot indoor primarily save the money and get that. I happen to be shooting a lot outside, and always looking for more opinions and answers to judge from =) So post if ya can or PM me too I literally had similar questions =)

Okay all, here's the answers I got.

For the BBG, you'll want the 20mm and it appears to be cheapest at Locationsound.

Unless you are using the Oktava outdoors, you won't need the jammer. You really shouldn't be using the MK012 outdoors since a shotgun mic will work much better. But if needed the BBG jammer, 'the one I linked to in the first post', will help outdoors. So if you're only using this mic for interiors, take a pass on the jammer and just get the BBG, it's all you'll need.

The KSSM will work with both the Oktava and an AT4073a. For the 4073a, you'll need a Rycote Softie, specifically this one...

It's 12 cm with medium hole, a good fit for the AT4073a.

I was also told the best place to get most of this gear is through locationsound. I emailed them for a quote on some of this stuff a few days ago and they have yet to reply so I may end up purchasing through B&H.

KSSM w/ NTG2

KSSM w/ NTG2

Does the KSSM work with the NTG2 as well? I was going to go with that for my shotgun?

While I'm at it - anyone want to give me a link to a good windscreen for the NTG2?

thanks.

I would also like to know if this would work with my NTG2. If not what would you use?
Thanks,
Alex

has anyone tried the schoeps b5d?

it is a bit more substantial than the standard b5 pop guard foam thing but not quite as cumbersome as the baby ball gag.

inside it has a nice plastic spacer/frame that leaves some airspace between the mic and the foam.

its a lot like a mini or micro zeppelin in the way it has foam with a plastic frame and the airspace.

unless you are using the hypercardioid outside i would think this would be an ideal solution.

i only use my hypers for indoor dialog and for outdoors i almost always use the 416 in the ktec zeppelin.
