Any chance you could contact your Firestore distributor again and get an update on the release of the new drive? They're not being very specific on message boards. Thanks!
I gave up on this drive, I called a few times in the past few weeks and they keep telling me anyday now. Funny thing is that if you go to B&H Web site the price went from $749.00 to $929.00 and eta is still Dec 2004.

Hi Dog, I contacted my dealer rep today at Focus Enhancements, and she was out sick, as she was yesterday. There is no one else there familiar with these offers. They assured me she will be in tomorrow, at which point I will call her and get an update. I am working from home tomorrow, (in case anyone cares ;D) but I already emailed myself the deal info and her number, so I will call from here.
Rob, at the risk of copyright violation, here's what the Focus guy said on dvinfo.net a week or so ago. Somewhere else it mentioned that the $750 price was a special offer.

The first beta units are now with customers. Depending on how the beta test phase continues to pan out, I would expect volume shipments for FS-4 some time in January. We are trying very hard to get the product ready for shipment, but as myself and Chris have pointed out, it is difficult to give a "within days" response at this point.
So, please be prepared to roll tape for at least a little while longer.
Yeah right! I wonder how they can say with a straight face that the deal includes a free battery when they have the exact same FS4 minus the free battery for 180 bucks cheaper.
I can't wait! Same time I have one eye on Reel-Stream's unit but thats still under beta testing and I doubt it will be available for at least a few more months. Gotta love the uncompressed feature though. No other product ups the quality more than that thing...Well a good camera operator helps ;-)
I just talked to the rep at Focus again, and she said they pushed back availability date until next week. She said middle of next week, we will be able to place the orders, and they will start to ship to us. She also said that is the same time they will ship for everyone, including B&H and Videoguys. She also clarified that the deal that we all get, including B&H, is a rebate that the customer mails in to get the free second battery. I wish they had mentioned that before.... But at least it is a legit deal, and you don't have to pay anything more for the battery.
So it's not really a rebate, which would involve the return of some money. It's a coupon for a free battery instead of a 2nd battery in the box.
Re shipping date: Rush, please keep us posted...although we'll remind you! But right now iit sounds like some of us might expect to get the drive in third week of Jan?? That would be great!
Just to add to the confusion, this is what the Focus guy said in the Creative Cow forum:
As you may know, we were able to start our FS-4 beta program in December and this is progressing well. We are currently working very hard to finish the product and begin production shipments. With a product such as FS-4 which is designed to be used in a variety of applications, it is important for us to ensure consistent and reliable operation. We currently expect FS-4 to be available by sometime in early February with FS-4Pro to follow in March.
