Running our of room... Help?

I've been running FCP (and all it's myriad files) off of my local hard drive, but the drive is almost full.

I have a new and very fast G-Raid 500gb hard drive. I would like to change my FCP settings and move some of the files there.

My first question is, which files does it make the most sense to move? What will run the best off the external drive? I'm thinking of just putting my capture files since they are the biggest space offender. Does that make sense?

Assuming that makes sense, to make this change all I think I need to do is go into system settings/scratch disk and change the drive and folder. Is that correct? That should change where my files go going forward.

Last question, can I then copy my current files to that folder and will my old projects find those files?

Thanks so much for any help and guidance,

Chris

You should always have your captured files on a harddrive separate from your system drive.

You are correct in how to change your capture scratch settings.

If you drag your current capture scratch folder from your system drive, onto the external drive all of your media will go offline, but when it asks you if you want to reconnect say yes, and you can tell FCP where to find the files.
