Running Fresnel on full spot

Is it safe to run a fresnel such as the cool lights 650w fresnel on full spot to the point where its very close to the lens? i assume its obviously not safe to have it touching the lens but what is a safe distance to run the fresnel focus at?

The safety guidelines usually say that you should leave around 0.5-1m of distance from the heat source to anything in front of it. I usually stick to the 0.5 meters for flags and nets and that kind of stuff, and if possible I avoid putting the lamps anywhere near stuff that can catch fire such as curtains...etc... The last thing you want is something on fire...........Obviously the safety distance widens as the fixture powers goes up....Be safe and make good films!!!!

Have a nice day!

I think you'd be ok, because when you full-spot a fresnel lens, the globe rides furthest away from the glass. :cheesy:

I'd also imagine the bulb travel distance in the trough has been set by the manufacturer to have a safe full flood and full spot end position. I think you're going to be ok, no matter what.

Haha right right.. My mistake ;) I meant full flood obviously, thanks though!
