You can go to radioshack and get an AC-DC converter. If you want to run more from the lighter, or make sure that you have a high enough capacity you can also go to hardware storese and find one that can run heavier wattage appliances/electronics even lights.

Using the car battery you will power it for weeks if not months. You *can* use the power inverter, which makes 120AC from 12VDC, and connect your Panasonic AC adapter/charger that came with the camera. The simpler and more reliable way is to get a 12V to 7V converter.

Has anyone tried running more than one componant off a car battery?
I was thinking of running the camera plus a laptop and a monitor. Is it crazy to think I could plug a power strip into the adapter and use those componant at the same time?

You can probably do that. If you are looking to get the inverter, total all the power consumption of the devices you are planning to use, in watts; get the inverter rated for that power or more. One thing to be aware of, the AC voltage produced by the inverter will not be of the same quality (stability, noise level) as you wall outlet. So if your laptop can not filter it out, it might give you trouble...
