Run any app off a USB drive?

Hey, guys, do you have the experience of running your daily used apps off a USB drive?

Which is I am now trying to do. But I find that only portable apps can be run like that.

while some apps like MS office are not portably available. How can I do that?
 
A lot of apps have dependencies on other files that either belong to the OS, or are stored in other locations than the standard "program files" folder. Registry entries are also a big deal with software that has heavy authentication. As a legal alternative to MS Office, I believe there is a portable version of Open Office floating around.

Not every program must be made "portable" to run off a drive - it's just a matter of self-containing the program itself, and some are better than others.
