Run and Gun Action Shooting - Staying in Focus

I am looking at shooting an action sequence - running through some alleys, a parking garage, a house, etc. - I'm shooting for a "Bourne-look" - I'm not planning to use any gear except for the camera, wide-angle adapter and the appropriate stabilizer. So, while shooting handheld, from shoulder, or the Figrig, what is the best way to keep your subject in focus while running along with them, around obstacles, over vehicles, etc.

thanks for any wisdom.

I do not know what you are shooting on... but if it is:

a) video (2/3", 1/3", 1/2", 1/4" sensors)
b) outdoors (stopped down because it's bright)
c) w/ wide angle adapter

Your DoF is most likely going to be considerably deep making your concern null.

If you somehow decide to shoot with a 35mm adapter, use ND's to keep an open stop, and get very close to the subject, then you can do some of these options:

1) Pull focus yourself (very hard)
2) Set focus and always try to stay the same distance away from the subject
3) Use a preston or bartech wireless follow focus. Then your AC can pull for you.
4) Let things fall in and out of focus and tell everyone it was the style you were going for (Just kidding!)
