rumors of new sony pov and amazingly ....

The JVC looks good but the codec is 15 mbps, which seems kind of weak. Hope they can offer a more pro codec/bitrate like GoPro is doing otherwise why try to compete without at least matching?
 
They are all very late to the game - Especially when the hero2 can be bought for $200 at some stores and from the looks of it, is still a more versatile camera. If the 120p @ 1280x720 holds true, I'd stil be very interested in the new sony - wait and see what the footage from it looks like and what other shooting modes it has.
 
If I was GO-Pro I would do a blackmagic. That is I would diversify into some other market that is not too crowded like the large sensor camera market. They are already a hardware camera maker and have the codec with cineform. The reason is that all these big camera manufactures are coming to their market and in 1 to 2 years these cameras could cost peanut. In fact they don't cost much more than peanut.

This would give them a larger market and better stability/mark-up and have some tool to hurt those big Japanese camera maker if they try to undermine them buy just dumping those small camera in large volume and at cost price to kill the competition.
 
efex, where can i get the hero2 for $200? cheapest i've seen is around $250. i need 3 of them. thanks.

Cell phones are killing off the market for Point & Shoot cameras, which is the reason Canon moved into cinema.

Canon's much less worried about what Sony is up to then what Apple, Google, or Microsoft, have up their sleeves. The runaway success of the 5D literally paid for the development of the cinema department, plus the Hollywood facility, as Canon realizes the future is not in dSLRs, or P+S. Expect them to go after other markets too.

I haven't spoken to other manufacturers about this, but they're all in the same boat.

Gopro2 seems like the best choice right now. That can change. It is on Amazon for 270.00 , anyplace cheaper?
