That's what made me really doubt the legitimacy of this "leak".Is H.264 a likely compression scheme? Seems like all of the other "2nd gen" large chip cams are using something else.
People responded to 5d footage the last two (three?) years in a powerful and emotional way. Phillip Bloom and Shane Hurlbut were putting things on the net that were moving images, as in they moved people, so moving they stopped wondering about the camera's imperfections and let the images work their "magic". (Mr. Hurlbut's word for the camera/sensor).
And I'd say it was more of who was holding the camera, than what camera was being held.
Ya know....it's been fascinating watching the 5d revolution or evolution because there's a real good parallel in the music business. It seems these forums are preoccupied with what is wrong with that camera but not about what's right with it and I don't mean stills. When I was a teenage musician (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth) all we had were tube amps and then one day the transistor technology made it's way into the instrument business. Wow, thank god we don't have to wait for the amp to warm up, and it runs more efficiently, etc, etc. Progress. Only there was something missing. It turned out that when pushed tubes would exhibit an even order harmonic distortion and when transistors were pushed, they would take the odd order harmonic route. Tubes were accidently more pleasing. Only we didn't realize why for a long time. Now years later there are countless plug ins trying to emulate that even order "warm" sound in Pro Tools rigs all over the world.
Here's hoping that Sony, Red, Panasonic and the rest are looking at what made people respond to the "warm" images ( evocative, not color temperature) of an accidentally revolutionary camera and not just rushing past it's shortcomings.
