New spec details are coming out for Canon's new 1D all across the net. The main thing that interest me is that it can shot 120fps @ 1080p! Thats insane. No solid release date or price.

It's CR1, so you might as well post pictures of the Loch Ness Monster and call them real. Nothing but speculation, which is what Canon Rumors is all about.

LOL...

I really don't know about Canon Rumors track history... I just thought that it was interesting info (if it turns out to be true), how do I change the title of the post to add "speculation" so ppl aren't mislead?

I already took care of that. :D

And seriously, take ANYTHING you read from a site like CanonRumors with a huge grain of salt. Rumors and speculation are what they deal in, and basing ANY purchase decision on anything you read there is setting yourself up for disappointment. Some rumor sites have better track records (like SonyAlphaRumors), but CR has a pretty dismal history.

Uggggg... hoping for some concrete info sometime soon.

Cannot... look... at... any more... speculation threads...:zombie_smiley::zombie_smiley:

I'm actually on a deadline for my next Large sensor camera purchase. I'm pretty much locked up on the HPX250 for my small sensor camera purchase, and am looking to the Sony F3 for my large sensor option. I was looking at the Red Epic S35, but with the recent RED price increase on the regular epic, and the delays on all Epic stages, I don't see the Epic S coming out anywhere near next November and at the announced price. So basically, for this October, November timeframe, I need a large sensor camera and currently the F3 is leading. There are aspects I don't like on the F3 VS Epic S, and its not resolution or raw or even HDRX, but the form factor and the ability to use fully Canon EF glass with IS. That's why I'm secretly hoping the 1Ds Mark IV to be a game changer like the 5D was, with no line skipping, HDMI live output and, if possible, Canon's 4:2:2 codec. Even if it went for 10K, I would buy it.

So I have 2 months to see what will come out of Canon or any other manufacturer's bag. Worst case scenario, F3 it is.

Worst case scenario, F3 it is.

That's not a bad scenario to be in:happy: I'm hoping for at least an announcement on a new canon DSLR in late August-November. I've stepped up my photography to the point where if I don't have a video shoot, I'm getting calls from the photo world and it's making me some extra cash. Really wanna go full frame for photo, but not enough to sell the 7D and go 5D this late in the game. That being said, if I don't hear anything by november, 5D it is...

Company just got an MKII...

Have to get reacquainted with it for super small super quick jobs...

I can't believe I actually liked these things for a while.

Relative to the "rumor' sites, that Canon Rumor site is the best. That particular 120fps was noted as being of interest because it was the most specific specs to show up, more so than typical fiction/wish lists such as those reported by "EOSHD."

The issue with the 120 fps (that might only last ten or so seconds) is that it fits in with a mess of other reports on Digic 5.

So, yes, it's all speculation -- BUT -- we're now at the point where stuff is getting leaked as opposed to wishful writing.

They may be the "best rumor site", but it's still, at this point, just a rumor. Canon Rumors even say it's unsubstantiated by giving it a rating of CR1. And no one knows if we're at a point where stuff is getting leaked... that's just wishful thinking.

Believe me, I really hope we're getting close, but right now I see no evidence that anything on the net has any weight at all. It's ALL speculation...

The ID series and is on a 2.5 to 3 years release cycle. The 1D MarkIV has been release on Oct, 2009.

It's the 1Ds MarkIII that is more than due for a refresh, it's been announced on August 20, 2007. In this case, maybe they are right about the 1Ds being merge with the 1D and probably replaced by a more studio oriented camera and called something else.

But if that's the case, they should give the option to shoot in full frame or in 1.3x APS-H mode.

It will still be a sensor that is primarily designed for stills first, video 2nd.

Pass.

Ditto.

IMHO it was never a DSLR revolution, it has always been an evolution & the AF100 / FS100 are the next step. I wouldn't go out & purchase a new DSLR to shoot video, unless all I could afford was a DSLR. Cameras designed to shoot video are going to be best at video, cameras designed to take stills are going to be best at stills, & phones that have cameras will best when quality doesn't matter & all you want is a quick photo / video.

For anyone waiting for the next big camera to come out to purchase & make money... don't. If you're ready to make money today, buy the best camera that will make you money today.

As for these rumors... I'd be shocked if they figured out how to do 1080p120; 1080p60 & 720p120 is believable to me, but 120fps for 1080, 720 & 640 just seems to say this is a rumor & nothing more.

I agree that the rumor thing is what it is.

As for 120fps (1080), I don't think it's a question "IF" they can. They ~CAN~, that doesn't mean that they will. The hardware capacity is there for sure. The HX9 compact camera shoots 1080 60fps and has HDMI out (that DSLRs still don't have) and doesn't break a sweat doing either. ...and remember this is a 350 compact camera! 120fps 720p at least is CERTAINLY well within reach on a 3000 dollar cam (even if it's a photo cam)....again....that doesn't mean that they WILL. It also doesn't mean that they won't. It's not ~IF~, it's when. I'm not counting on rumor sites to tell me "when". :)

Ya know....it's been fascinating watching the 5d revolution or evolution because there's a real good parallel in the music business. It seems these forums are preoccupied with what is wrong with that camera but not about what's right with it and I don't mean stills. People responded to 5d footage the last two (three?) years in a powerful and emotional way. Phillip Bloom and Shane Hurlbut were putting things on the net that were moving images, as in they moved people, so moving they stopped wondering about the camera's imperfections and let the images work their "magic". (Mr. Hurlbut's word for the camera/sensor).

When I was a teenage musician (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth) all we had were tube amps and then one day the transistor technology made it's way into the instrument business. Wow, thank god we don't have to wait for the amp to warm up, and it runs more efficiently, etc, etc. Progress. Only there was something missing. It turned out that when pushed tubes would exhibit an even order harmonic distortion and when transistors were pushed, they would take the odd order harmonic route. Tubes were accidently more pleasing. Only we didn't realize why for a long time. Now years later there are countless plug ins trying to emulate that even order "warm" sound in Pro Tools rigs all over the world.

Here's hoping that Sony, Red, Panasonic and the rest are looking at what made people respond to the "warm" images ( evocative, not color temperature) of an accidentally revolutionary camera and not just rushing past it's shortcomings.
