(Rumored) DJI Mavic Pro II

I am going to guess DJI had planned the original launch for July 18th, but then Parrot launched the Anafi which has a very clever digital zoom that seems to deliver acceptable results (within reason for a drone). DJI canceled the launch and rushed back to the drawing board to include an optical zoom on the Mavic II. Hence we now have the two camera optioins.

My dealer told me it was a production supply issue. They want to be ready to deliver and not have the global sh!tfest they had when Mavic Pro mk1 was released.

You have owned a French car as well then.

When I grew up, crazy grandparents had Citroens and Peugeots before they had to bail on the U.S market. My grandmother even had a Renault Le Car. Uh, yeah, no french cars or electronics for me.

France did produce some damned fine cinema cameras back in the day - Eclair, Aaton, Beaulieu, Pathe. And Angenieux lenses. I worked with most of those and they were reliable, state of the art machines by the standards of the time. Some of the connectors, batteries, accessories and ergonomics tended to be a bit eccentric - I'm tempted to say "French" - but they held a solid place in the market for many years. The 16mm Eclair NPR and Angenieux 12-120mm (or 9.5-95mm) combo (along with the Swiss Nagra) pretty much defined cinema verite filmmaking back in the '60s.

I used to rent Aaton S16 cameras once in a while, I really liked them. I would still buy an Angénieux lens today, I love their glass. The French cinema cameras tended to work pretty well although when it came time to put my money down, a German Arri SR2 HS was what I spent it on as the French cameras tended to generally not hold their value as well as the Arri, which, like the Betacam for quite a few years, held it's value.

I guess a lot of people received this today...

It'll be interesting to see if there are any features we didn't know it would have?

Dolly Zoom looks pretty cool, but most shots still look either hyper edge sharpened or like Neat Video has been set to 110%. Seems to be handling shadows better though.

Up on DJI's site:
https://store.dji.com/product/mavic-2?vid=45291

$1,449 for the Mavic 2 Pro, which has the 1" Hasselblad camera.
10-bit video and 20mp stills!

$1,249 for the Mavic 2 Zoom. 1/2.3" sensor with a 2x zoom (24mm-48mm). One cool thing is you can do a dolly zoom with it (I'm assuming automated).

Bigger sensor and HDR wins for me so I'll go for the Pro. No info on bitrates that I could see...

I had these drones for over a month now, and as a Phantom 4 Pro user, I can finally make the switch to Mavic and not feel like I’m making any compromises. Enjoy our review!

Anymore info about the controller with the high-bright screen that's mentioned in the video? No info or even a mention on DJI's site.

Looks like the bitrate is still 100mbps, BUT it's encoding in h265. Should be better just because of the efficiency of the codec, but I would love to see a side by side.

I'm interested in that Pro model more than the zoom model ... but as a current Phantom 4 pro user, have to wonder what update that line will see .... very likely just around the corner... hmmm.... jump or wait ??

Unfortunately, I don't have any info on the controller. They didn't give us any information on it and it doesnt seem any other reviewers got it. I think maybe it isn't ready in time so they are waiting.

I will try to do a comparison between the P4 Pro and the M2 Pro. I wanna see the comparison myself. I still think the P4 Pro will have the edge.

All I can find on the Mavic 2 pro says 100 is "max bit rate". But that should be for UHD in h265 - just like the P4pro. Now, at other resolutions / frame rates - that bit rate likely drops down to 60 - just as it does on the p4pro.
Also looks like the Mavic 2 cannot do true 4k - nor 60p in 4k or UHD

Assume this would be the Crystal sky monitor... or did they drop that??

Two questions for you:
- can you see the 10bit difference between both models?
- would you mind uploading a couple log files shot on the Pro model? Those shots on the lake look pretty cool!

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't notice that. Yup, that should make a big difference.

I'd always expect the bigger more expensive model in a company's current lineup to have an image quality edge, but to me the questions are: how much better is better, and does the portability of the Mavic line lead to me shooting more often with it because of how easy it is and it being in my bag at all times?

Great video, subbed. I don't why any Mavic Pro owner isn't carrying on about what is the single most important feature of the Mavic Pro 2, adjustable aperture!!!!! Freaking amazing and really cool, that does make this drone worth more to me. I hate my Mavic Pros fixed aperture, I am always having to manipulate exposure not onlty using NDs but also ISO. Just being able to nudge exposure with aperture is a game changer.

That was one of several reasons I got rid of my Mavic and went with the P4Pro instead.
