Rumor: Sony A7s will have 4K video

He posts some completely speculative stories just to bring hits, but those are easy to identify, and he also gets access to the nice toys really soon, so he does post useful stuff too. I also think the personal attack here was out of order...

Anyway... anything new on the A7s? I don't want to wait til tomorrow to get all the details, that's TOO LONG!! </not-really-sarcasm>

Sonyalpharumors doesn't have a forum, I think. It would be interesting to see how photogs react to the inminent announcement of a 12mpix fullframe mirrorless body.

With my photography hat on I use a nikon D3, is that 12mp? 14mp?, I dont even know? What I do know is that I don't salivate over 30mp as it is 'pointless' on 90% of photo jobs, good lo-light like the D3 has is however not pointless.

So a 12mp compact? perfect. No underspec stills-wise to my eyes.

Andrew is a retard. End of story.

I strongly agree with those making the point that this comment is OUT OF LINE. I have dear friends who are lovingly raising a child with Down Syndrome and you can't imagine how much it hurts them to have to hear this kind of hate talk. Please stop.

There are other blogs where they won't care. We do here.

The latest Metabones E-mount adapters cover full frame. EF-S lenses are APS-C that's what the text above is referring to.

Hey Andrew, just wanted to say thanks for your hard work and excellent blog. I can't believe the attitude of people here on DVXuser. You do all of this work testing stuff and publishing a blog and some armchair asshole who doesn't provide any of the information that you do to the community just slags you. Makes me so damn angry to read it when that happens.

My favorite part about your work is that you go and meet the manufacturers and actually ask them hard questions. That takes real guts as you are basically putting your relationship with the camera manufacturers on the line each time - it'd be so much safer to just give them softballs (which other people do). What other blog or camera or filmmaking site actually does that?

I like the fact that you talked to the Panasonic reps and actually told them that they should just have a mode on the GH4 that simply does the full 4.6K readout and stores that (so there is an option to not have the 1.2x crop).

Everyone else just said "ooh ahh" but you made a great suggestion that would have concretely improved that camera.

I wish that there were another 10 Andrew Reids in the world and a lot more people asking the actual tough questions and making good suggestions.

That said, let's see if the Sony camera does 4K 60p. That would be awesome. Heck, they could put an anamorphic mode on it if they wanted to that uses the full height of the sensor. Boy I hope someone hacks this sucker.

But yeah, in all likelihood, it'll be the same as the AX100. Hope not but we'll see. The next big question is the HDMI out of course.

(...) I thank GOD that Andrew doesn't anchor a news program!
LOL Trace of your best humor... : D you're also such a unique character, my friend : ) No less mandatory than anyone over here ;)

In any case, his infotainment formula has worked it out and has resulted in his service to accomplish the goal to give us the news before the news.

Armchair what?
Look at the timeline here bud. Andrew only days ago say's he did "research into the XAVC-S codec" claiming 60Mbit/sec max. Due to my statements his blog has been updated to "I did some research into the AX-100's XAVC-S codec". He used the term "research". Obviously he didn't do much research on the FDR-AX1. My one minute "research" clarifies the TRUTH of the codec. That the XAVC-S at 30P is capable of 100Mbits (as Sony releases it, I'm sure it can go higher) and at 60p capable of 150Mbits.

SO Bruce days "My favorite part about your work is that you go and meet the manufacturers and actually ask them hard questions. That takes real guts as you are basically putting your relationship with the camera manufacturers on the line each time - it'd be so much safer to just give them softballs (which other people do). What other blog or camera or filmmaking site actually does that?" He goes and meets the manufacturer? Did he call up Sony and ask about the XAVC-S specs? NO. He speculated. SO I, the armchair a**hole as you call it, came in here and on HIS website to clarify the actual TRUTH concerning the codec. Call me what you want. But in the end, CALL ME RIGHT. No matter how I went about it. And thus he changed HIS blog and WITHOUT ****CORRECTION, I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE CODEC*****.

Cosimo!!! WHY don't you look up the word retard? Go ahead, type it in and right click "look up in dictionary". It will say
"delay or hold back in terms of progress, development, or accomplishment: his progress was retarded by his limp." Now you choose to see it as a noun and politically correct. Political correctness has gotten us where? My niece is with Down Syndrome. Are you one that wants to ban the word BOSSY with Beyonce?

NOW, in all likely hood the A7s will pack the XAVC-S codec at 60mits/sec. We only have to wait less than 12 hours to find out. But Andrews "research" was limp and did a dis-service to Sony, you, me, and himself. He can't even state that he was wrong and put in *****EDIT, MY FINDINGS ON THE CODEC WERE OFF AND MISLEADING**** Ever watch the news and they have to retract a report? What do they do? They make a statement that they were infact wrong on the original report. Andrew updates and passes himself off. Good job Andrew, keep it up. You're a Saint.

I just saw Jason Wingrove on twitter tease 'Time to sell your 1DC and A7R' and he isn't known for rumour mongering. He is also with Matt Allard who is close to Sony and with Newsshooter.com.

Dusty... if you want to actually run a free camera / film blog and provide better info, be my guest. But I think you prefer yelling at people on DVXuser threads.

I think that it's poor form to personally attack someone with such vigor, especially if you aren't providing a similar service to the community.

Look at Andrew's coverage of the GH3 and GH4 and you'll see plenty of examples of what I'm talking about - eg him giving honest feedback and asking hard questions of the manufacturer.

I did not say that he contacted Sony in this specific instance. You are just trying to put words into my mouth in your typical polite, professional style that makes DVXuser such a pleasure to visit.

Seriously, I love posts like this around NAB time. Vague info from people I don't know about something I am looking forward too. It brings my hopes up that whats coming will be exactly how I want it. I've always been let down when the true specs are released but I still hold on believing because eventually the odds gots to come my way just once.

Come on Bruce, I follow you... But, Christopher, as well, Andrew and your posts too, how could we live without them?! All can be worthy of a good point anyhow. Jannard and Jarred have always been right, I guess. After so many years, we're all part of same family ;-) Who doesn't remember when Miguel (aka Macgregor for newbies) was looking for a job here posting his nude chicks?! :P

Haha, yeah! I actually had dinner with Macgregor and another old-school DVXuser last week and we had a long chat about GH4 vs the 4K Sony DSLR rumors at the time... as well as how crazy it was that so many people met on this Camera / Internet Dating forum called DVXuser.

I have the GH4 on preorder and will definitely preorder the Sony too (both will be good for different things) - and will try to convince Mac to do a GH4 vs A7s vs F35 vs Dragon vs F55 vs Alexa vs 5D RAW vs Film test with naked people for you :) Must test skintones!

That is if Mac is not too busy making real movies, of course...

What posts? I pointed out what someone said. This person isn't known to rumour monger and hangs out with a lot of people in the know. I didn't say anything about the specs and neither did the person's tweet I mentioned just that something looks likely to come from Sony at NAB this year and would hit the 1DC/A7r. Considering they have been teasing a 4K DSLR for a little while it is not a stretch to guess its coming especially combined with the rumours. I wouldn't buy into any specs of anything until its released and anyone that does is guessing.

The difference Bruce, is that some bloggers (or commentaries) use a method of "Here is how I see it" through experience or even research. For instance, our very own Kholi can state controversial things but I ofter take his "experience" at great value and with that respect his word even the presentation is not to my personal liking. Thus I find Kholi a valuable asset to the community.
Now other bloggers use the method of "Here is how I WANT you to see it" and with lack of research or sometimes with motivation as the driving factor. And usually I will ignore it or them. Well sometimes enough is enough and somebody had to speak up and say something, even if harsh.

Like I state, somebody didn't retract and "EDIT" their story. They quietly corrected without *****I MADE MISTAKE****. All to be "breaking the news". And within only a day of knowing the full details.

Now I read a story days ago about Sony at NAB will be launching all sorts of 4K ventures and their angle is 4K at $2K, 4K at $4k, 4K for all. That was Sony's words. It's all to drive speculation so that WE sit here and take guesses at them and that we continually ponder them, thus clicking over and over and over on websites for updates driving traffic. Now somebody will say, "I don't have banners on my blog". Doesn't matter anymore. The traffic still generates ads on your Facebook, e-mail, pop up banners, this and that. Some work that angle some less. More power to them.

But here, at DVX we have a forum that can exchange ideas, thoughts, input, output, and share. Sometimes we will be constructive, combative, understanding and even outright rude. There are a few websites that I trust hold this integrity and DVXuser is at the top of that. And most of that in input without hyperbole or sensationalism. I have come to loathe the term "game changer". The game is always changing. Or "camera killer". The next variation of the camera should kill of the last. I have a sony RX10 that smokes my HVX200. I just don't feel the need to blog about it and I'm off busy using it or any of the other cameras I own. If I do feel I can have input on a certain camera, I'll post it to a thread here or answer a question somebody has about it. All while asking questions about what I don't know and would like to learn.

Thread is "Rumor is Sony A7s will have 4K". OK, tomorrow we will know the details and all next week we will learn the details. Then the discussion will become real and worthy (or not worthy).

Thanks Bruce. I owe you a beer for that. Takes guts to stand up and defend someone.

I'm happy to admit I got my research wrong on the XAVC-S codec - I looked it up on Wikipedia but didn't see the heading for AX100 so took the '60Mbit/s limit' as a given for XAVC-S. I was a bit over exuberant and excited about the rest of the info in the article and since it's only me there at EOSHD, I don't have anyone else to do hours of research or fact checking. I go off personal experience and research and there's only so many hours in a day. Haven't used the AX1 yet and it's a brand new codec I have zero experience with as yet so mistakes can happen initially, and when they do I correct them later.

I don't mind being called out on that and to be fair I don't make mistakes 'all the time' as some people like to portray. Even calling out opinions as 'mistakes' which makes no sense, but anyway...

It's the manner in which it's done. Dusty has 5 sniping comments over at the EOSHD forum as well, so in my own living room he attacks me. Why? I cannot imagine where this extra dimension of nastiness and name calling comes from or why it is even necessary when we're all in the same interest group.

Funny how you look past my last 6 posts about the GH4 based on personal experience shooting with Frank Sauer and the camera itself that Panasonic entrusted to us, only to belittle me about a small mistake in a fun rumour article later in the week...

Bias, no? Personal? Just a bit!

Whoa. hold on there. You misunderstood. No snark in my post. I meant it as an honest belief. I thought the 'seriously' meant i was serious. I didn't write 'Seriously?' I really do love posts like this around NAB time. Seems the negativity and sarcasm around here have destroyed any way to convey an honest emotion especially in this thread that has made everyone on guard and ready to fight. I tried to help steer it back on topic but it seems drama is more enjoyable than discussing cameras. I'm out.

Bro you don't need to answer this. Your actions speak for you, as you can see most of us appreciate your insight and love going to your blog. Just keep it coming, it's one of my go to blogs for sure. Thanks

You said it all, nothing new to see here. To discuss people's personality is so useless as to defend we should all like blondes because someone prefers them to brunettes. So, let's move on out of this pathetic topic.

Andrew, you are welcome here. Even if you had your cases with one or another member before or there are people who don't appreciate your style, there will always be another half who loves you. If not the most part. Trust me, we are ALL your readers. Bashers included. Or they wouldn't know what name to type. So, go back to work. That's your ultimate bullet. Nobody can touch you.

It is only envy because of the girls you invite to shoot in your camera tests, and lack of moiré on that redhead you recently had nearby your lens ;) Trust me.

E :-)
