RUMOR: 2.5K Canon DSLR w/ global shutter?

with a Big grain of salt I'd say. Dont see Canon announcing a new cine-DSLR line camera given they have the 1DC to protect and seems counter intuitive to cannibalise their own cine DSLR line. Plus the C300 and C500 have proven winners, so I am not expecting any new cameras from Canon at/before NAB. Cine lenses - maybe. I guess we'd see more and more rumours as we get closer to April...

Some stuff on canonrumors comes true, some doesn't so who knows if this will come to pass or not. But I certainly like the idea. This would be a sweet spot for a lot of shooters. 2.5k with global shutter would do anything I currently need despite the 4k cell phones, etc.

Well, let's say this Grain of Salt represents the normal amount of predicative power of the canonrumours website. Based on this morning's sample, it would be a Grain of Salt... thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds.

Rumour aside... such a camera does make alot of sense. Crash cam, cam on octocopter, B/C cams etc... Often being bashed about and in fast action, tight areas... Global shutter would be perfect. 2.5K for further steadying in post for a 2K out.

Sounds like the kind of cam Shane Hurlbut would pester Canon for.

Light turns green, trap is clean

i heard this rumor myself, it was going to be a 4k not 2.5, in DSLR body (think 5D mark 4) global shutter, 12 bit raw internal to some sort of new SD card??

Sony's mirrorless 4k shows the trend of undercutting even your high end - canon supposedly wants all the 4k dslr business, even if it hurts their 1dx or c500. Those overpriced units for the first early adopters let them test a few things out and generate some revenue - all while preserving their EF glass. That's the real ticket - EF glass not bodies.

Canon likes what they are doing, so expect more of the same. Maybe a C200, C400 to fill the price gaps. They are happily supporting the 1DX and 1DC with firmware upgrades, they like those cameras and won't harm them. As camera prices drop in the coming decades and no one can make a killing on camera bodies, they will have no worries, because of their glass.

I lost a lot of respect for Canon with the whole 5DMKIII release. Yes, it is an improved version, but their handling of the delayed HDMI out thing was deceptive imho. Who knew they would send the same mush out of the "uncompressed" feed? They have made it quite clear, unless you pay up you are not getting their good stuff. That is their choice, and this is mine. So I can't see them putting out a GH4 type of blowout camera at a low pricepoint. This very personality probably made the GH4 possible due to the market opportunity created.

What an f*ing waste of production capacity.... Canon is so caught up in trying to sell 10.000.000 different types of the same camera that they can only deliver half finished products.

With the arrival of 4 k and 4k monitors why the hell would I add anothet step to spent money at inbetween hd and uhd?

Fail move in my opinion as a canon user.... Im this close to letting my setup of body and expensive L lenses go to invest in a new system.

While I'm not quite as poised as you are to start selling off my lenses, I have already moved away from my Canon DSLR.
I was already anticipating a 4K camera from somebody(Panasonic) this year, and hoping more would follow, so I went ahead and sold the old 5DmkII.
It might be a little while before I decide to sell my lenses, I still have some lingering faith in magic lantern to hack 4K out of whatever Canon releases next.
Besides, I trust magic lantern's implementation of 4K over whatever manufacturer's crippled stock settings - even if 4K. We can always come back here after every camera's announcement and say "ah, but see they should have done this...." but with magic lantern, it's always "ah, I didn't know we would be able to do all of this....what else can we do?"
