Rules for using my g-drive?

I'm new to digital editing and have just set up my first g-drive. Are there rules to follow when using it like say ejecting it before I turn the computer off so there is no loss of info?

Should I turn it on before I turn on my computer or after.

What is a fool proof way of making sure that I'm capturing my material to my g-drive and not my harddrive?

What settings should I have my fcp on when editing with a g-drive?

Thanks.

Do not unplug it unless you have ejected first of the computer is on. If it is off you can just unplug it.

Go to system settings and chnage your scratch disk to your g-drive.
