RS422 control of BVW50 Beta deck?

greetings,
i'm having trouble establishing control of my BVW50 via RS 422 control from FCP3.

PowerBook G4/1ghz/10.3.5/FCP3

thru keyspan usb/serial adapter, 9pin-9pin cable into 'remote' 9pin on BVW50.

video/audio out of thru advc-100 and into FW on Mac.

what settings should i have in FCP?

You have to create a new device control setting.

I had this deck when I was in DC.  Couldn't get it to work either.  I did get it to work once with the keyspan... I'll see if I still have the settings in my presets and I'll let you know.

One thing you might want to consider buying -- this I KNOW works is an AJA IO box.  You can also bring the beta in as DV50 and get a better quality off the tape.

Ok -- Use the Sony RS-422 setting (under Audio/Video Settings - Device Control Presets.) I forget which time source you'll use... ltc or vitc. You will also have a frame offset issue. Create a video flash frame over something. Capture it and then cue it up in FCP and also on the deck. See how far it is off... 10 frames, 2 frames etc. Add that to your preset and you'll be good to go.
