Royalty free sounds

http://www.soundsnap.com/ Is this really royalty free? It says it is but I don't see how it could be unless when users upload they turn the rights over to Sound Snap. I just want to make sure before I use some sounds for a commercial project.

Most commercial sounds are "royalty free". You pay up front but not every time you use them. The opposite is true of most production music.

Yeah, it's really a great site lots of amazing stuff. I looked at there legal page- from what I can tell it's all royalty free. Thanks for the replies.

how would anyone ever know where some of those sounds originated from? they are so non-discript it would be impossible to track to a source

Well after looking at the site they are more than royalty free they are just plain free. And it is true with many sounds that it is pretty difficult to track. That said some commercial files have digital fingerprints and anyone who works in the field all the time tends to know their sounds. So while certainly not everything that I have recorded but a lot of the choice stuff I would probably recognize. If your arguing that you could use sounds and nobody would chase you down for royalties, yes that is probably true. But as I said I don't know of any commercial FX library that charges royalties. If your saying that you could upload commercial FX and nobody would know, I suspect that your wrong. Too many people are too intimately acquainted with most commercial libraries and it would only take one to catch it and ruin your whole day.
