Royalty Free Music... for free

Yep, no strings attached. I make videos for not-for-profits in the UK and make my own tracks as music beds on GarageBand. Some kind people on iCompositions allowed me to use their tracks too, so i thought i'd offer mine up.

They're only for non-commercial use, so mostly targetting people making vids for the not-for-profit sector, students or indie film-makers trying to get a deal and caught between the copyright rock and the cash hard place. I guess if they were to be used for commercial purposes you'd have to get in touch (not really thought that far ahead). Mostly just wanted to offer something to people who are always short of a track or two.

Mostly they're electronic stuff, either mellow or mid-tempo, and to get them you'll have to go to iCompositions. my user name there is frank_littleff. This link, i believe, will get you to my home page:

Apologies if I have put this in the wrong area, but figured directors and editors would be most interested.

Also, I hope they're good enough for you. They work a treat for me, but my market is councils and charities doing community focussed work.

Would love to know if anyone fancied using them. All the best.

Jules

That grimeshine is a sweet track. If you were interested I would try to sell that track (& others) to a music library like stock20 or digitaljuice. Good work.

Creative Commons and Royalty Free Music for Video

Creative Commons and Royalty Free Music for Video

www.freeplaymusic.com is pretty expsensive
www.stock20.comm is 20 dollars a track

Here are some more sites that offer creative commons or royalty free (one payment) music. Thanks for the last two, from earlier in the thread, added for completeness.

http://www.beatpick.com/
http://www.dance-industries.com/home.php
http://garageband.com/
http://magnatune.com/
http://opsound.org/
http://www.jamendo.com/en/
http://www.podsafeaudio.com/
http://www.simuze.nl/live/
http://www.soundclick.com/
http://www.icompositions.com
http://www.incompetech.com

These sites merely distribute music, but perhaps if one were to contact the artists then it might be possible to use their music
http://marsa.dmusic.com/
http://www.epitonic.com/

I am not sure about the music on salon

I am not a lawyer so please don't take my word for it that the music above is indeed usable in your videos.

Youtube Backing Music and how to get it

Youtube Backing Music and how to get it

Youtube offers backing music. One can swap the audio track for a whole selection of music offered by a lot of bands.

I wonder if one can get ones hands on the music outside of the Youtube system and whether the bands would mind being mixed with the audio of the video, rather than completely replacing the soundtrack.

There is some quite good music available.

So far moby is my favourite.

Coming back six and a half years later I realise that most of the above sites are no longer offering free music.

The only one still offering free music that I can see is incompetech.com which mainly seems to offer music by the very generous and competent electronic music maker Kevin Mcleod.

Thank you Kevin.
He also has a YouTube channel featuring his CCed music here
https://www.youtube.com/user/kmmusic/videos

And at the bottom of Keven's FAQ at Incompetech.come he gives a list of other sites that offer free music. All of them seem to be single composers.
https://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/faq.html

I spoke too soon regarding Moby Gratis which is still going at http://www.mobygratis.com/ (as opposed to gratis.moby.com)

I still do not know if there is any way of downloading the extensive YouTube offering of free background music so as to edit it and reupload to YouTube so as not to have to remove the original soundtrack completely but rather merge the two. If anyone knows, then please let us know. It may be possible to merge sound tracks using the YouTube editor but I don't want to use the YouTube editor, and last time I tried it was not possible.

timtak,
I just stumbled across this. Was it what you were thinking of?

Best,

Thanks Jim
That is good too, but only one album.

Sorry about sound cloud. Some Youtuber said that they got their music there but it is as you say. Quite a few tracks more than 500 have Creative Commons in the title, and are presumably released in that way.
https://soundcloud.com/search/sounds?q=creative commons
and there 285 tracks in the wearcc group (?)
https://soundcloud.com/wearecc/tracks

We also want to know which Creative Commons license a track is using. SoundCloud makes that easy to figure out, but I think lots restrict use of their tracks to noncommercial projects. Still cool, and again, easy to discover on SoundCloud.
