I've been watching this quite a bit lately. Not only is this movie packed with good acting (Malkovich, Landau, Turturro, Damon) it's packed with really great characters. Also, I really enjoy the camera work of Jean-Yves Escoffier. Lot's of cool focus manuevers on the cards, chips, faces of players. The whole ending scene with Malkovich's "Teddy KGB" is just classic. Every line out of his mouth is pure gold.
Teddy:You must me kicking yourself for not walking out when you could. Bad judgement! But, don't you worry son.. it will all be over soon.
[Mike notices Teddy's tell in that he puts Orio cookie up to his ear as if listening to a little secret from it, and instead of raising with his A5 2pair checks]
Mike: I check.
Teddy: (mouthful of cookie) No check check.. I check you. (makes huge bet)
Mike: I'm laying this down Teddy. Top two pair. It's a monster hand and I'm gonna lay that down. Cuz you got 2-4 and I'm not gonna draw against a made hand.
Teddy: (looks puzzled..) Lay's down a monster... Should have payed me off on that. The **** did you lay that down! (throws cookies at the wall narrowly missing the Gramma character)
Mike: Not hungry?
Teddy: Mr son of a *****.. Let's play some cards!
