Round the world yacht trip documentory

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum but I thought I could perhaps get some advice on our idea to document our round the world sailing trip.
We are both "foodies" so we were also thinking about making a cooking show where we look at national dishes, then contrast the 5 star resorts version with that of the locals.
Then we adept both to make it suitable for cooking on the boat utilising local produce.

I'm a 10/10 sailor and a 8/10 chef but have no experience in planning a production, filming it and editing.

My questions are fairly broad but I would like to know a couple if things...

1. what equipment will I need to film this?
2. i have Adobe Premier - is this what is recommended or else what is?
3. can this be done by just 2 people or should we consider inviting a knowledgeable person along that would enjoy the experience?
4. what other issues would I need to address?

Thanks in advance for your comments...

Thanks Bill for you prompt reply.
We have no shortage of volunteers that would love to come along and partner up with this venture.
I gather from your reply that this is your advice as an alternative to doing it ourselves...

My reply was a bit tongue-in-cheeck Renec.
The truth is you can ask a dozen people these same questions and get a dozen reasonable responses on this.
Best bet may be to interview a few qualified people, see if there's a consensus, then go with your gut.

I might look into the workflow used on Anthony Boudain's "Parts Unknown" as a helpful template.

Where are you going to show your cooking show?

Once you know where your cooking show is going to be viewed, then you will know the quality level which you must achieve, and thus a better idea of the gear needed.

I would also suggest a run through or 2 shooting everything you intend to shoot on your journey, and then editing a couple complete shows together to make sure your workflow is in place before you head out. This will also give you an idea of whether or not you have met your quality level goal. Also of huge importance, knowing the rights/regulations of filming locations/people in each of the areas you intend to visit.

Lastly, know thyself.

You know your video production abilities better than anyone. Is your skill set at the level where it needs to be to produce a cooking show? As a youngster in San Diego I sailed the bay, and was hired as a worker to restore yachts which were around 105'. While I'm a good sailor and know my way around a boat, my level of seamanship is not at a sail around the world level.

Good Luck!

Dave
