Roto streak and split diopter

I guess I've been in a cave as of late but is a filter that gives you anamorphic flare fairly new? Read a few blurbs on Lindsey optics on their rotating split diopter s and anamorphic flare filter. Seems like a lot easier to get the anamorphic flare than pulling out the anamorphic s. Just curious on anyone's thoughts.

As much as I love anamorphic flare have filmakers jumped the shark in recent years ? kinda the way the zoom was used as nausea from 1969 for a handful of years. Use it till you kill it. Sorry for the rambling original question, subsequent research how uniformed I am about filters.

I picked up a couple of extremely cheap fake "anamorphic look" filters from Vid-Atlantic that put an elliptical hole in front of the lens to change the way the bokeh looks and run a thin piece of fishing line in front to create the flair ( you can paint with a erasable marker for a color flair.) Looks cool at the right f stop and with the right lens. Never have used it on a shoot but one of these days it will do the trick for the director who wants something just a little different. :-)
