Room Tone automation

I've faded Room Tone it in and out manually, haven't looked at automation at all yet,
Can you grab a nice room tone clip and loop it to where it loops perfectly, then fill the
whole lenght of the scene in a separate track, and then go to the track settings to
automate the fades to save time?

that's something I read in the audio section... I guess there are NLEs (and I thought I saw something in Vegas) that automatically fade a track in when an other given track is empty

I don't see why you'd want to. If you've got room tone to run throughout a scene, why would you fade it other than at the beginning and the end? Just dragging the fade envelope at either end would take less time than trying to set up an automation.

I agree with David, you probably don't want to change the levels of the room tone. However, what you're describing is called sidechaining. To do that in a studio you would set up a compressor to trigger on the input from the dialog track, but then run the process on the room tone track. I'm not sure if you can setup a plugin in Vegas to do that. If anyone knows how to sidechain plugin's in Vegas, I'd love to hear how to do that :)
