Room to move with the Anamorphic

I've just read Barry's guide in which he shows the anamorphic produces good results if you work within it's limitations.

Okay, so it's possible to achieve sharp focus with the anamorphic in most situations. What I'd like to know is, given that in order to focus one must find a compromise between the vertical and horizontal planes - ie: if the horizontals are in sharp focus at AF50 & the verticals at AF64, the camera must be set to MF57 - doesn't this mean that a moving subject will have much less room to play in. I mean, a slight movement forward or backwards will knock the subject out of focus on either plane, making it difficult to use the adaptor for dramatic work?

Just wondering, because I haven't had the chance to use the adaptor myself, but I'm considering ordering it online.

Also, have any of you mixed anamorphic with squeeze in situations where you want to use a screw on filter?

Hey, thanks guys ;-)

Since you need to stop the camera down when using the anamorphic adapter to achieve a range of focus that includes both the vertical and horizontal focus points, you do still have some latitude in terms of a subject moving in relationship to the critical focus distance.

Getting used to the adapter takes a bit of effort, but once you are comfortable with how it works, it isn't really difficult at all.

I haven't need to mix squeeze with anamorphic footage as I use either 4"x4" or 4" x 5.65" filters with my Matteblox.

I can't imagine not having the adapter in my arsenal of accessories. I would certainly recommend it.

Ive been using the anamorphic madly for some time now. And I do beleive after all that practice it has become a fairly straight forward process to use it. The image quality with the adapter is great. My wifes grandparents have something like a 52 inch flat widescreen (its big) and my adapter footage is looking very good on there I must say.

Needless to say I love the adapter.

PS I stupidly killed an adapter .. but I went ahead and replaced it immediately.

HEH was running from equipment to camera was busy ... concrete footpath... running rather fast, I was suddenly dristracted and dropped everything which was an xlr cable and the ana... the ana didnt fare to well skidding down the concrete and running into a wall. I was going full pace. Ive since sent it to a freind back home who said he can replace the smashed lense.

PS in case you were wondering... the xlr survived and go straight back into work.

Hey, didn't your mother tell you not to run when you have expensive optics in your hands?

I would be interested to learn if your friend is successful at obtaining the damaged glass. Unfortunately, I don't think that Panasonic sells pieces for the adapter, but I could be wrong.
