Hi all,
I'm new to ripping; never had to do this before. All help appreciated.
I created and burned a DVD that I need to make a change to. (Someone's name is spelled wrong in opening credits). I made this DVD more than 2 yrs ago, and have since discarded the buttons, menu panels, most everything except the raw footage and a copy of the final DVD. (Luckily, I forgot about PPro's "Autosave" feature and found the one item I needed in there). Recently, the customer has returned asking for the correction, AND wants multiple copies. I want to fix only the piece that's wrong, without rebuilding the entire menu and DVD.
I used mpeg Streamclip and converted VIDEO_TS.VOB to myfile.avi. (I had QT Pro, and bought the QT mpeg reader/encoder so Streamclip will work).
I brought the .avi into PPro/CS2, cut out the "bad part" and replaced it with the correction. Now I have a complete and correct "newfile.avi" at the same length as the original. (Easier than I expected, but here's where I get lost).
When I open VTS_01_0.VOB in Streamclip, I see the various menu items/panels.
From reading various posts, I'm under the impression I can "glue" the pieces back together without having to re-author the entire DVD, but I'm not sure how.
I figure my next step is to convert my corrected .avi to MPEG-2 using Streamclip, and name it VIDEO_TS.VOB.
That is the only file from the DVD that will be changing.
Am I correct about that?
What do I do after that? What software do I need?
I have the entire Production Studio Premium/CS2 running on XP Pro, so I have Encore and PPro.
I suspect I can do this in one of those (likely Encore); I'm just unclear on how to do it.
Is it as simple as renaming all the VOBs to mpg or mpeg, then importing to Encore and building the DVD? Does it matter if it's named 'mpg' or 'mpeg'?
Do I need to do anything with all the other non-VOB files I see:
OpenDVD/Sources/
---> VTS_01_1_VOB (Folder containing a file of the same name: VTS_01_1_VOB)
and these files in the Sources folder:
Menu_000 thru Menu_008 (these are all bitmap images)
Menu_000_SubPict thru Menu_008_SubPict (also bitmaps)
SPU_Apgc_Asf thru SPU_Ipgc_Qsf (these are Encore DVD Subtitles)
Video_Apgc_Asf thru Video_Ipgc_Qsf (these are all movie clips)
ClickMe (a FireFox document file in the "OpenDVD" folder)
opendvd.pvm (a PVM file in the "OpenDVD" folder; I don't know what a PVM file is/does)
Untitled (a DVD file in the "OpenDVD" folder, also don't know what it is/does)
Video_TS (A folder on same level as OpenDVD; clear to anyone capable of answering my questions).
I'm afraid of ruining the menu structure.
How do I reassemble this DVD to include the correction?
Do I need some other software?
Thanks.
