Rolling shutter has practical uses after all

This is fascinating stuff. The video was posted in 2014 which made me wonder why this technology hasn't become more mainstream. If no one else, it seems like professional sports teams would have an interest in it for listening in on competitors. But looking at the MIT page in the video description, I'm not sure that this has been developed any further. I'm not sure what that would even look like. A plugin for NLE's? Maybe they couldn't secure the funding.
