roller blading & shooting

it depends on the content of what your shooting. If your intermixing shots from different cameras shot from different angles i.e. some sort of chase scene and your not looking at the "rollerblade" cam the whole time, I think it will add another element to the look when those camera shots are edited in. If the action and the pacing of the scene is fast noone is going to pay any attention to how not steady a rollerblade camera shot is unless the operator cannot seem to hold the camera steady for a few seconds.

What I would do is get up my speed, then while I am coasting along, get my body in almost a squat position and lower the camera kind of close to the ground, it makes for a very interesting shot. Of course its going to be shaky if your trying to skate and shoot at the same time while holding the camera in your hand! LOL!

rollerblades are what most professional operators use.. not just because they cant skate. Rollerblades allow you to do a few extra movements. Rollerblades also allow you to have a really wide stance for stability if called for.

Most all of the Street skating in Dogtown was shot on rollerblades, and some of the pool stuff.

Too bad Rollerblades kinda suck, I skate so maybe im a little biased.

I admit yes its cool the low to the ground shot, but unless your going for a shakey sorta raw effect I wouldnt do without a steadicam. I did some stuff today with a glidecam and skates and it worked really well.

Last time I used rollerblades I flew 15 feet through the air lucky landing on a grassed area..... I think Ill stick to other means. Would be good if you could do it.

Can someone post some roller blade footage?

Rollerblades... skateboards.... has anyone else realized that this is the most early 90's thread ever! Come on guys! You all sound like ninja turtles figures that come with "sports gear". Blading was the new skating, skating came back as the new blading, freestyle walking replaced skating, and now driving your motorcycle like an idiot is king. Get with the times, and start driving like a mofron... while shooting with your DVX.

this is interesting yet disturbing at the same time hearing people talk about skating like they know anything about it ha. But yes I am an aggressive in-line skater and when I used to have my GL2, I did alot of shots specially lines with the century optics fisheye and before he would do his trick the lens would be an inch or two from the ground. I havent tried it with my dvx yet but i'll be sure to do it, i'm also going to jump a few launch boxes and try to get real creative with my DVX on skates. Specially in downtown chicago area, I can think of alot of things to do. If anybody here is in the chicago area or wants to fly me out ha i'm down to do some steady cam shots with my skates, I am 120% sure of my abilities. When I had my GL2 I did at least a few tricks while holding the camera like rails, wallrides, ect. Fun stuff

yes i know of reality and all that jazz. Still downrezzed HD looks good. but the trailer I dont get he downconverted to SD then downcoverted again to wmv?

doug filmed it cf30, and he did release an hd preview of the beginning of julian's profile, but im gonna stop talking now cus im sure everyone that doesnt skate thinks we're crazy haha.

edit: oh yeah, i got the video today, and it looks pretty good. skating is unbelievable though haha.
