Roland R-88 got a *massive* price drop! (fierce F8 competition?)

Weighing in at a not so svelt 5.9 pounds. It makes me reach for the ibuprofen just thinking about it. If you could just set it on something (besides your back), it might be a great unit.

Indeed, but if you're more cart based than bag based then the R88 is a strong competitive choice instead of the F8.

But if you're at the budget level where you're going with F8 or a R88 then you're probably not doing it out of a cart but out of a bag.

Hmmm... then again my current setup of Tascam DR680 + Sound is 2.6lb + 4.4lb = 7lb! And that is without batteries (add in batteries and that is another couple of pounds extra, easily!)

So switching to a R88 would mean a big weight saving for me! Holy hell.
Heh, just will make that Zoom F8 setup seem even better when I finally get it.

What a wimp!... ;~) Try hauling a Nagra IV around, it comes in at something like a svelt 14lbs. A day in the field and your shoulders are burning. If you go back to their RtR recorders the IV feels light.

Think of the savings in gym memberships.
