Roland r-05 with tram tr-50 lav mic

Hi all,

I am posting because I am experiencing a problem with my Roland R-05 and Tram TR-50 Lav mic setup, the Roland providing the Tram with phantom power. I use this setup to record voice audio during interviews.

I always set up the input gain on the Roland, say at 50 (out of 80). It will remain there for a minute or two, then shoot up to 80 every time. So at that point I am getting peaking and the audio comes out badly! I cannot for the life of me get the recorder to stay at the desired gain level.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am unable to find any information online. Maybe I have an option selected that I don't want.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Did you have the Rehearsal function accidentally turned on. It analyzes the incoming audio and sets the mic gain automatically.

I don't have that particular recorder, but mico's reply seems logical.

Hmm well the Roland's "rehearsal" button is on the front and you just select it when you want to analyze incoming noise. In the menu, it was on "rehearsal time: 1 min" ...the other options are either 30s, 1mn, 3mn, 5mn or Manual. I set it to Manual but I'm not sure thats the problem :(

- BTW, the Roland R-05 does not have Phantom Power. Perhaps you mean 'Plug-in power.' (technically known as bias current/voltage) ... a different animal and NOT compatible. What connector is on the Tram. There are also negative or positive bias and two wire and three wire variety Trams.

If that's for the Sennheiser SK series G2/3 wireless body-pack transmitter, it should work. But as I previously stated, uneven levels are normally not a symptom of a mic connection issue. Troubleshooting 101; try the mic with a 'known' working piece of gear, if it functions normally, then move on to the next item in the signal chain.

It only spikes the gain as described when recording via the lav mic. I have emailed Roland tech support :/

don't just rely on email. CALL them. emails get lost and I've found when I've done that for help they often go unanswered.

Just called...they recommended formatting the card (already did that many times), trying new batteries (doubt that will change anything). I have setup a request to send it in for repair. Anyone have any experience with Roland's customer service and support? I am pretty sure it is not under warranty anymore so I am curious as to their typical repair costs.

Thanks for all the replies.
