Rokinon 135mm f/2 filter threads

I have the Rokinon 135mm F/2, non-cine version, and I love it. However, the filter threads suck. Out of all my Rokinon's, it's the only one that gives me real trouble when screwing my filters to the front of my lens. Can anyone suggest something like a metal 77-77mm adapter that just extends the filter threads out a bit? I don't want a UV filter as I don't want any interference with the IQ in anyway, especially when pointing the lens at lights.

Thanks!

How about buying a cheap filter, any kind or color as long as it has the right front and rear threads, and removing the glass from it?

Yup, you can get some really cheap direct from China. I think I bought a pile of cheap UV filters that I use to extend some of my cinevised lenses so they fit in the mattebox better, I want to say they were under $1 each.

Many filters are made with two parts that screw on to each other, holding the glass in the middle. Look for little notches on the inside, use those to bring out the small part, take out the glass, put small part on again. I've done it a couple of times as well, both with super-cheap Chinese filters and with just-about-cheap Tiffen filters.

Hmm, thanks. This sounds not too bad, but potentially risky? Could you send a link to these Chinese ones that you've personally done it with? Would be looking for 77mm threads.

I'm sure you have filters already. Check those, see if you can find the notches. If you were to try to unscrew those, it would be risky because you don't have the right tool (something like this) so you'd be using a screwdriver or something like that, and any slip can create a huge scratch on the filter. But with the cheap one you want to take the glass out of, that's not a problem.

As for the filter I did this to, I bought it off ebay back in 2010, so, no way to find it again XD
But anyone shoudl do, even these. Trying is cheap, but going too cheap may mean you end up with a thread that's not much better than the one you already have, though.

Those filters look like the ones I have, just look around and you should find plenty of them. As far as getting the "filter" out, you can always just break them since you don't care about anything but the metal.

A large rubber stopper will also remove those retainers, something that fits all the way around. That said I do have porper spanners for this job that I sometimes use if the retainer is tight. Normally they come right out with almost no effort and often no tools.

In my experience, just take the filter and put it in your checked baggage on your next flight. The airlines will remove the glass for you. Some cleanup will be required to collect all the fragments.
