Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Stunning!

My 5-year-old daughter was wondering if this installment will have any female heroes. I guess she got her answer.

Another white, English accented, butt kicking heroine no less...I'm not against that, but, you'd think so soon after Force Awakens, they wouldn't repeat themselves like that. Just for variety's sake. Trailer looks great, though.

That was my thought, too.

Though I suppose there was some independence between the productions, so they both sort of did their own thing.

Yeah, cuz that dynamic went over like a fart in church. (A 935 billion dollar fart)

Yay! Another Star Wars(TM) film :) I'm really excited for all of the Star Wars(TM) films that Disney(TM) will produce for us Consumers(TM) in the coming Years(TM).

It feels lazy...But, from what I've heard this is supposed to be a Dirty Dozen, Seven Samurai type story so perhaps the film isn't focused on her as much as the trailer suggests, and is more of an ensemble.

See, that's what I'm thinking too. (although is she Rogue one?)

I feel this trailer might be deceptive and this is an ensemble cast. (She makes eye contact with that dude in the war room...who is he?)

I don't know, but I do know the trailer looks tight. I'm excited. Same as TFA, I'm going to try and stay away from spoilers.

While I like it, I get a bit of a Hunger Games feel from this. Especially that last shot of the protagonist in black.

Maybe, depending on the specific timeline (which would have to be kind of tight, wouldn't it?). Doubt it makes too much difference, though. Biggs or Biggs-like would work either way. It's not like there's a huge history invested in the character.

I can see casting calls now looking for the "Star Wars type" female lead: Petite, brunette, age 18-25, attractive but strong. Who says blondes have more fun?

I did enjoy how the end of the trailer merged Binary Sunset with the Imperial March.

And the fact that Mark Hamill retweet the trailer with the note "Pretty sure I don't have any lines in this one either."

Seems to be something like the original conception of Darth Vader. And honestly, I kind of always wanted to see that version of the character.

There's speculation that Felicity Jones' character may be tied to the new trilogy as Rey's mother... which would explain the casting choice, and help tie in the universe spin off films to the others.

It's just a teaser and we know how deceptive those can be with shot selection - everything I have heard and read suggests that the film is more of an ensemble film. Though if Felicity *is* in fact later linked to be Rey's mother in any bit of exposition, then it would make sense for her to have at least a semi prominent role.

Also: it's interesting that all of the spin off rumors for the initial batch suggested they would be origin stories (Han Solo, Boba Fett, Kenobi, etc.). Then Rogue one didn't fit that bill.

Or does it?? It might actually be a bit of an origin story itself.

I felt that way too, but this trailer hits an awful lot of right notes.

Yeah, there's gonna be a Star Wars a year for the next decade... I'm half estactic and half concerned it's just going to wear really thin.

Then again, as a nerd growing up (and still now, who am I kidding) the EU (expanded universe) is huge and rich with stories and characters. As long as they keep giving them AAA attention in every department, I'm all about it -- just so long as they keep the actual trilogy films very selective. I think the main story line/trilogies need to be kept sacred to a certain extent.

(not that the prequels did... sigh).

I would be so thrilled to see prequel era films with the new talent, but ignoring everything George Lucas did art direction wise would be a major point of contention. It's a shame, because the actual bones of those prequel stories and universe are actually pretty fantastic (a young powerful Jedi being manipulated by code, councils, politics, and the draw of love (an inherently good thing) being the root cause of a fall to darkness... etc... I mean that's brilliant stuff that was executed so terribly. Shame we'll probably never get to see that story done right.

Maybe a WAY back origin story of the formation of the jedi council will be in order eventually... will be interesting to see what cues they use for art direction (stick with OT art, blend OT and PT art in a way that fits the series, or what not). I have a feeling that really new/out there, detatched from the OT content and characters is a ways out, sometime after this new trilogy and first wave of anthology films hits and they are ready to branch and try something new, and when audiences are ready for that.
