Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

Super Trooper

Best

1. Million Dollar Baby
2. Kill Bill Vol. 2
3. Vera Drake
4. Spiderman 2
5. Moolaade
6. The Aviator
7. Baadasssss
8. Sideways
9. Hotel Rwanda
10. Undertow

What the hell is Spiderman doing there. I mean, I liked the movie, but still...
Kill Bill rocked. Period.

Worst

1. (tie) Troy
1. (tie) Alexander
2. Christmas With the Kranks
3. The Girl Next Door
4. Dogville
5. New York Minute
6. The Grudge
7. White Chicks
8. Resident Evil: Apocalypse
9. The Whole Ten Yards
10. The Village

I absolutely loved Van Triers Dogville. I thought Alexander was OK, but no where near worst of the year. The Villiage was "meh", but not deserving of this.

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

I've seen only KB2 and Spidey2 and about 3 other new films this year and still, neither of those would be in my top 10.

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

Whats really sad is that my local theatres played EVERY single movie on his worst list, but only three on his best. I gotta find me an arthouse :(

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

Of those 3, I'm sure 2 of them were the ones I saw (although I saw them on DVD.)

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

Jim, time to get your but into a movie theatre.  Just think, big screen, greasy popcorn, flickering lights.
Too bad it is way more fun to watch, than to work on big films.

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

Can you really put

Troy
Alexander
and
The Village

in THE WORST OF THE YEAR COLUMN ? I have only seen TROY I admit; but to call it the WORST? Come on Roger.

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

Spiderman 2 is one of the most boring films I've seen.
Brutal script. And draggy. Like the production must have stopped every now and then while the director huddled with the writers and asked,---"so what do yah wanna do next?"
On and on and on it went to nowhere.
This could be at the top of the worst list.
Spidy, if yer a DVXer, and viewing this site don't take it personally.
Best movie I've seen in a while "The Terminal".
"The Secret Window" was beautifully shot and edited. Pretty good story. Might have been 2003 release though?

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

youre right peabody.. spiderman was way boring, i could BARELY stand watching it.

I thought The Village was a good film. Certainly not the worst of 2004. and wheres Napoleon Dynamite on there? :)

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

Kirsten Dunst as MJ is the definition of bad casting.

Prairieboy: Yep, I do need to get out more. COme on down and watch my kids for me, eh. ;D

I did get out to see Ocean's 12 last night. Aside from some huge plot holes, I didn't hate it.

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

I just watched troy a few days ago and it is NOT the worst this year had to offer.

To think that RE:A and White Chicks are bad, but Troy is unwatchable... Somethings wrong with ebert, he's off never to return lol

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

I apparently am the only person on the planet who enjoyed Kirsten Dunst as MJ - and one of the few who really enjoyed the film.

I also thought The Village was a very good film, I really enjoyed it as well.

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

The Villiage was OK, but M. Nights' schtik is getting pretty old.

I liked Dunst as MJ aswell.

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

I enjoyed The Village more than Sixth Sense. If MNS had released The Village first and did the Sixth Sense now, I think it would have the same reception many seem to give Village..."oh yeah, seen this before." ::)

I would like to see him direct some other author's scripts for awhile and then maybe slip another "twist" movie of his own writing somewhere in there.

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

Hmmm, I'm wondering if those of you that liked Dunst as MJ have been big readers of the comic book. She just didn't seem to fit the mold for me. I like her as an actress in other films. Maybe it was more the directing. EVeryone else seemed perfect, but not her...

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

wow... dogville is probably on my top 10 of the year... I knew my tastes where not even close to mainstream... ;D

Re: Roger Ebert's Best/Worst of 2004

I wouldn't take Ebert's reviews to seriously though.

This is the man that gave A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST [glow=red,2,300]*thumbs down*[/glow]
and Garfield as well as 2 Fast 2 Furious [glow=red,2,300]*thumbs up*[/glow]

Go figure ???
