Hey guys/gals,

Just curious what type and brand of rods and support system people are using for the HPX170 and Cinemek G35 combo as I'm expecting my G35 any day now.

I'm especially interested in how you've adapted for the slight offset in the 170's mounting thread.

thanks in advance...

G35 rod supports

G35 rod supports

Hello, not quite sure what you mean by the offset, do you mean recessed, use a spacer ring then , Zacuto baseplates are adjustable all ways , they are great as i have one for a G35 & EX1. I also use a Zacuto rod support which is a one as well. Check out the picts , it might help get a concept , i do alot of handheld work. Hope this helps somewhat.
Enjoy the G35, it rocks

Hey Philip - thanks for the reply.

The offset I was referring to was in relation to it's left to right orientation.

To explain...

If you're standing directly behind the camera (with the lens pointing away from you), the mounting hole for the 1/4 20 screw is not in perfect alignment with the center axis of the lens. It's position a just slightly to the right (maybe 4mm) I've never done this before but I figured that the adapter and lenses (with the accompanying follow focus) wouldn't align correctly with the rods since the rods will be offset as well.

Sorry but this is a little confusing to explain in text - kinda like describing how to tie a pair of shoes.

thanks for the tip - I'll check out the Zacuto base plate.

btw - I really enjoyed Death Tunnel.

Thanks, it was painful spending 10 days in a haunted asylum with five girls just in nighties, Death Tunnel was a blast and it is really haunted check out "Spooked the Ghost of Waverly Hills Sanatorium www.spookedtv.com Victoria, i lived there for 7 years, Empress Hotel cool! wow! Any way, here s is a side to side support attachment that shifts for offset lenses from our good friends at Zacuto. It attaches to the support rod i have on my system, Call ask for Mandy and tell her Spooked TV Philip Booth told you to call and get a NAB discount. This is a rock solid support , your G35 will blow you away so protect it and secure it. Hope this helps , Philip

The Zian is a locking lens support that uses a 1/4 20" screw to screw directly into a variety of lenses. The 1/4 20" screw can be adapted to other thread sizes to accommodate all lenses. The 1/4 20" screw has the ability to move approximately 3/4" side to side. Only thumb screw tightening is necessary, no tools required.

Bingo!

Thanks Philip. That's exactly what I was talking about now that I see it - I'll have to give them a call once I finally get my G35.

What years did you live in Victoria? Were you making films here? My company does a fair bit of business in LA (Disney, Pixar, etc.) - maybe we should drink a beer sometime.

thanks for your help.
