I likewise haven't had the issue and also have turned on the TX units first. But interesting that technical support mentioned it: I didn't, having simply enquired about the changes in the new firmware. So frustrating that Rode cannot/will not provide proper firmware history/details, preferably on the website or, failing that, as a text file with the downloads: to be honest, the really nice and helpful technical support chap I have been dealing with since the Wireless GO ii was launched is equally frustrated by this!

Cheers,

Roland

That's cool that they said they're working on a fix for the clicking. I feel like if they fix that then I'll buy it

I've just received an (unprompted) email from the very friendly chap at Rode technical support that I have been in contact with since the early problems, saying:

I've got some good news.

First of all, the clicking issue has now been rectified in the latest firmware update, which is now available to download.
(App Software is 1.1.3, giving 1.6.8 firmware to the Wireless GO II units).

Secondly, upon downloading this, you'll also see a text file containing release notes.

I've installed v1.6.8 [good to see Rode's firmware numbering is as illogical as ever!], but, as I didn't have the clicking problem before, I'm hardly best placed to confirm that it is resolved: hard to imagine it isn't though! Good that they have provided some firmware notes for the first time, though they are a bit minimal (this one simply says 'Firmware: Fixes issue impacting some users that could result in audio artifacts'!).

Cheers,

Roland

Would people feel comfortable using rode wg ii in place of a Sennheiser g3 in all equivalent scenarios?

Well, the new SD A10-mini does look quite attractive, but given that a single TX unit costs £2130 and you'll need an A10 RX unit, giving a total cost for two channels of £6838 vs c.£270 for the Rode Wireless GO ii (i.e. 25 times difference in price), it's evident that we are looking at two very different products (and markets)! So doubtless it needs its own thread...

Cheers,

Roland

Can anyone recommend a high sensitivity lav for the WGII? Using my Oscar 802 and ME2 I find I have to really push the preamps on my A7SIII (10 or more) with the WGII at 0db...

Hmmm: that's odd as I use the Rode lav (their pricier one, which has a sensitivity of 21.00mV @ 94 dB SPL - just 1mV more than the ME2: can't find the Oscar 802 sensitivity) which is plenty sensitive enough, both in terms of signal to the TX unit and the camera (I have my G9 preamps at the lowest setting (-12dB); with the WGII set at -24dB to -18dB, depending on source). The Rode lav level seems pretty similar to using the onboard mics of the WGII (I have just checked this using a pink noise source, with the meters staying pretty constant between the two mics).

Indeed, as borne out by earlier comments on this thread, the problem with the WGII was more the other way round for some (i.e. clipping with louder voices/sounds) and, thus, the -4dB pad that was added to both TX and RX units in April was welcome.

So something sounds strange...How does your signal with the
Oscar 802 and ME2 compare to the WGII onboard mic level?

Cheers,

Roland

10 is nothing crazy. 4-10 is an optimum setting to have on Sony mirrorless'.

802's not that sensitive.

The onboard is much hotter

Hmm, well perhaps the ME2 is a lot lower output than the Rode, despite what the specs suggest: in that case, to answer your original question, I'd recommend a Rode lavalier!

I wish the Oscar 802 was a higher sensitivity mic. I A-B'd it with my ME2 and the Oscar is just light years ahead acoustically. I ordered another one today to use with my DR-10L/Tentacle E recorder...

I'm using Rode Lav Go mics, and as Roland mentioned, there's plenty of level. I have the level all the way down on my GH5, and the Rode receiver at anything between -30 and -24 depending on the scenario.

Has anyone experienced a problem accessing the RWG2 files on Windows 10? My Windows is 21H1 with Windows Defender. Whitelisting RodeCentral did nothing.

RodeCentral hangs when I connect a TX that has OGG files. If I reset the TX which deletes the files then the empty folder opens and RodeCentral correctly reports no files.

I can access the files in Windows Safe mode but that is a very clunky work-a-round. A fresh install PC does not show the problem.

Rode Support don't seem to have a silver bullet.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
