Rode videomic + vibrating 35mm adapter..

Hi, I just recently received a vibrating 35mm adapter and started shooting some test footage with my rode videomic and canon HV20. The problem is that the mic picks up the vibrating noise from the 35mm adapter, even though it's extremely quiet... Is there anything I can do about that? Is there anyway I can keep the vibration ON and not have the mic pick up the vibration, or at least keep the noise to a minimum???

Thanks.

Let me guess....you've got the microphone mounted on the camera, right? This is why so many of the experienced members of this board seem to say the same thing-mounting the mic on the camera rarely works.

And, if your mic is not mounted on the camera, it still sounds like you have not positioned your mic correctly. It should be no more than 18" from the mouth of the person speaking.

And finally, you're using a mic that is not well known for having much off axis rejection. There are other mics that MAY (I stress the word may) give you better results.

Sorry I can't offer the one-liner that fixes your problem.

It's possible that a simple bracket like this one ($25) could get you enough distance to make the noise less noticeable. I guess you could even stack two of them to get twice the separation.

If you opt for this route, you should test just how far the mic needs to be from the vibrating gg to not pick up the hum anymore. Then you will be able to look for a bracket that is the right height.

Sorry Phil, I must be channeling you today!

Great tagline by the way.

Not to hijack, but I am sure I could come up with some great taglines like:
"I don't know what you are focusing on, but it is nothing inside the frame"
or
"I spent all my money on my camera, how can I get great sound for $100"
