I've seen this microphone at Henry's in North London. The fella at the store told me it would be a good buy. I thought I'd bring this up to you great DVX people first, before I made any uneducated purchases. :)

Should I buy this microphone for my DVX100A? I need something that clearly picks up dialogue and could also be used to record good ambience. I only have $ 250 CAD to spend on a microphone and I'm beginning a project fairly soon. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I realize that I'd probably need to purchase an XLR adapter of some sort as well, suggestions on that topic would be appreciated too. :)

Thnx

No! For a similar price, if you want a Rode, look at the NTG-1 or -2. The "Video Mic" is specially designed for cameras that lack the audio capabilities of the DVX. With a DVX, you'll do better with the more "pro" mics.

I'll echo ullanta's sentiments. The video mic is the highest end lowest end mic available. It is not a good quality mic when you compare it with what else is available. I would save money rather than drop the cash on that.

Well, I've just read some posts relating to the ATR55... I'm not very impressed with the testimonies, lol. Well, the Rode Mic and the ATR55 seem to be cheap, but I guess I'll have to find something else that I can purchase for below 300 dollars. (I'm a highschool student with a tight budget.) Thanks for all of your help though!
I'll give that NTG-2 a shot. Or a better Audio Technica model.
