Im going to buy the rode video mic soon, i wanted to know if anyone has this shotgun mic, and what are your reviews.

The rode NTG 2 is obviously a better condenser mic, imworking with 3.5mm input, and XLR will be later on, when i get my XH-A1 and Canon EOS T1i .

Get the NTG-2, pop in a battery to supply the phantom power, and get a Beachtek or juicedLink mixer/adapter (or the Sound Devices MM-1). This way you will capture better sound and not have to replace your mic when you get a new camera. The AT875 is a decent mic, also. The Rode VM is a piece of junk.

Because it is. Is it better than most mics integrated into the camera? Yes, but it doesn't even begin to compare to low budget prosumer mics like the the NTG-2 or the AT875. If you have any aspirations of becoming a filmmaker don't bother; but if you are a hobbyist it may not be a bad choice.

I used it once (not by choice) and there was a lot of hiss from it and the sound itself was very colored. It's bulky. It doesn't even feel well made when you hold it in your hand. It will be useless to you when you get a better camera, so it would not be a good investment. If you get a passable mic like the NTG-2, the AT875 or something similar you can use it for years without the need to replace it, and you will at least get something if you decide to sell it. You would be very lucky to get 10% if you tried to sell the VM.

I haven't used the mic, but this is the only bad review ive heard. I'll look more into it.
