RODE unveils two new iPhone/iPad-attachable products

Would be interesting if the lav is the same hardware as their standard lav they sell.
If so, buying the iPhone kit would be a steal, cause the normal Rode lav is about 4 times the price.

The iXY looks quite good; it appears to have a decent a/d convertor onboard. The lav mic is questionable because it uses the iphones a/d, which is of questionable quality. Handy tools none the less.

Plus, what if it comes out of the jack or some other failure? You'd never know until you check it later, and then it might be too late.

I wonder if it is possible to use with an Android phone if I use a different recording app? It looks to have a standard jack. If not, is there anything else worth looking at for a Android phone.

Thanks

Yep, but you're in the same boat as if you use any un-monitored audio source. (I never understood when I've seen radio reporters w/o headphones on. All you're recording is audio. How can you not monitor the only thing that is your job?)

At least with the iXY you can still plug into the headphone jack for monitoring.

Worth testing out. It looks like it is a standard 1/8" jack with an extra ring (TRRS vs TRS). But I've used iPhone headsets with a mic (TRRS) in standard headphone jacks (TRS) & didn't have any problems. So my gut says this mic would work with anything that has the standard TRS 1/8" mic jack.
