rode stereo VideoMic to XLR input on hmc150

Help! I'm new to both the camera and the mic. The mic is hard-wired with a mini-jack lead - so can't b connected to the DVX inputs. I gather that Rode's DVX adapter will only produce a mono result? I want to be able to use the Rode at up to 20 ft from the camera - so, obviously need a cable/s of that length. Presumably that cable would be have to have a female mini jack end to plug the Rode cable into and a Y branch at the camera end with 2 male XLR connectors to connect to each of the channels??? Is that correct? And where (in the UK) can I obtain the cable/s set-up??
Thankyou in advance

You have a couple of problems here. 20' is a long run for an unbalanced cable so generally what you would want to do is run the mic into a preamp then two balanced cables to the camera.

I would ask why you are using a stereo mic. You don't want to be recording dialog with a stereo mic.

But assuming there is a good reason if the RVM you have has that 20dB boost switch you might be better off just sending the unbalanced stereo signal to the camera and splitting it there.? You would have to try it out. The problems you may hit are picking up hums and buzzes. It really depends on where you are shooting. Out in the middle of nowhere you are probably fine but in a noisy RF place like a city...?

In either case you want to split off the two signals (this is not a "Y" adapter - that would send the same thing to both sides). If you know someone who can solder and has some basic electrical experience you could buy two Audio-Technica CP8306 cables and wire them into a 1/8" female jack. That would give you a balanced stereo out.

Yes, a stereo out.. but not balanced, and still subject to the same unbalanced issues. It would be usable with a balanced input, but not balanced.

Since both of those cables are transformer balanced out puts, YES you would have a balanced stereo pair of XLR's

Did nobody actually look up the link and just assumed I was posting a straight through cable?
