Rode NTG3 gone bad

Funny thing happened today... I got a notification from UPS that Guy intercepted my delivery of this mic... they were going to let me check one out and they told UPS not to deliver it. Odd. I wonder what's up with that? No email, no nothing... they just told UPS to return the mic and not deliver it.

An explanation would have been great.

I'm hoping it's not because they sent me an NT6... which turned out to be a very lack-luster mic... and me being honest about it...?

Our apologies for the confusion. Nothing funny going on here. We had RODE send you a mic direct from their inventory instead of ours. So, UPS is sending ours back. Usually it's a pain to get mic manufacturers to loan a mic to an individual. Ask Dan Brockett how challenging it is to get mics for review. Some companies like Countryman, might just snub ya. I don't mind loaning out mics to individuals that have a solid track record for writing and trust. Well, unless they're super duper duper expensive. For example I've got on loan right now a pair of Sennheiser 8040's, an 8050, and an 8020, imagine how much is in that little box. I wish I could loan that to you Matt, you'd be like a little kid in a toy store.
Please let everyone know how you like or dislike the RODE NTG-3 when it arrives. We appreciate your willingness to review the mic and let others here in these forums know what you think. That's why we're making the effort to get one to you, we think that people should know about certain products and if this works out, we'll be happy to try it with other items; mixers, boom poles, and shock mounts. What other reseller would go through all this work and still kick in thousands of dollars in prizes to forum festivals? Hmm... I can't think of one.

I am using my replaced NTG3 today. Directly from Australia via DHL to Estonia on the day the Rode support stated. This is unheard of here in Estonia as the local courier representatives always deliver one day later outside of capital city specially when goods are sent from outside of Europe. I am floored.

Now I have a NTG3 with 3000+ serial nr instead of sub 300.
By the way the protective cylinder has been redesigned, it is lighter and not so tight anymore, no more accidental "popping" by first time users.

Thank you Raster for your help too.

Speechless,
T

I won't be surprised if Rode eventually becomes known in the same way Sennheiser is known... that they make some value-based products, and high-end products... and that it's worth checking them out at both ends of $. (I think that right now... while Rode makes some high-end stuff... that most people think of them as a value choice, instead of a straight-up, high-end choice.)

I already think that Rode is killing the me66 at a lower cost... and it's cool to see them at least fire some cannon shots across the flagships of these other companies as well.

More then anything we're seeing the power of the internet, and open communication. I think forums like these had an influence on the decision to create these new mics in the first place.

Sorry for any previous friction Raster... if you can help lubricate the customer service machine then that's another feather in your cap.
