Hey guys this def is not my neck of the woods (sound) so i would like a little advice. i just purchased the rode ntg2 and it has a high pass filter switch. The book says its to remove low frequency noise. Even though it says this, i'm still kinda lost as to what exactly is low frequency noise. can u tell me a situation where u'd need HPF option on...it would help me to understand better. I usually concentrate on cinematography so and this is my first mic that i own(finally!!) so i want to practice getting decent sound.

(nt3 and g2 wireless soon to come woo hoo!!:D)

I just got an NTG-2 a little while ago as well.. From what I've read it seems that your best bet is to leave the filter on, and it helps get rid of low frequency noise (Anything under 80Hz [background hum, some handling noise, etc.]) I haven't had the chance to use it enough yet, to tell you if there's much of a difference or not, but I'm sure there's someone on here that will be able to.

Rumbling wind noise is another low frequency noise the filter can help remove. Few people's voices go below 80Hz, so it can help to get clean dialogue recording.
