Rode NTG-3 and Tascam DR-100 MKII

I just picked up an NTG-3 to use with my Tascam. I previously used a NTG-2 and typically I would set the gain to "high" and ride the levels to max 5 or 6. The NTG-3 appears to be hotter -- can anyone suggest some decent settings (gain and level) for outdoor verite work (mostly dialogue) in a noisy city location. I know this is a very general question and depends on the circumstances but maybe someone can chime in?

As always, you need to experiment - there are no hard and fast rules. Levels will vary from scene to scene, and even between different set-ups within the scenes.

There's no standard gain/record knob (numerical) setting. Depends on the SPL of the sound source and the meters.

Thanks, Rick. I realized it was kind of a silly question as I wrote it :)... Really impressed with the NTG-3 so far though...

The question you should be asking is, "How do I set levels appropriately when recording," but I assume that's answered in the stickies.
