I recently shot a scene from my new movie, and Im using the rode ntg-2 with a stock windshield on it. it was a fairly windy day. and through all the dialogue scenes you can constantly hear the sound of the wind sounding like thunder in the video...in the future what can I do to fix this? even in a very windy day.. I thought the windshield was supposed to fix this problem, but it didnt in my case.

Are you talking about the stock foam? It wont do much outside. You'll need a full blimp/zeppelin or at least a softie. DVEstore is selling RODE's new blimp for 299 shipped. Havent used one (i've got a k-tek) but it looks great especially at that price.

Here's a pretty drastic example we shot in the studio a few weeks ago in front of a "high-tech" box fan. http://vimeo.com/2095874

That is the Sennheiser package which totals up to over $800.

$324 MZS 20-1 Pistol Grip
$188 MZH 60-1 Harry
$289 MZW 60-1 Blimp
------
$801

The RODE Blimp appears to be an excellent value at $299.
Compare to the K-TEK Blimp at $367

Cover the high pass switch on the NTG 2 with a bit of tape. They didn't bother to isolate the switch housing, and it can create a terrible wind noise.

Yes, this is something that often gets forgotten.

A proper basket windshield with Windjammer would be the best solution, but a Windjammer over the supplied foam windshield would be an improvement over what you have now (but don't forget to seal the switch holes as mentioned above).

As mentioned above, cover the high pass switch, also cover the XLR connection. I use a length of mic foam windscreen to slip over the back end of the mic. This covers the switch and the connection point. Test by blowing around these areas with headphones attatched, you will be amazed at the difference the foam makes. Most mics suffer from this problem, but in my experience the Rodes are far more prone to it than others.

I have the rode blimp and I love it. I bought mine from Guy, and it was well worth the money. If that's still too pricey, look at the Micover Puffins. 60 bucks and good for almost anything up to a severe wind.

You really can't expect to get good audio most of the time outdoors without some sort of wind protection. The stock foam doesn't really help enough.

The K-TEK K-zepp slip over is pretty effective at the under $100 price point. You might be interested in watching this video example - the mic used is the RODE NTG-2 and we're getting light gusts of about 10MPH.

Also if you don't need the "full meal deal" blimp, RODE just introduced a new slip over softie similar to the K-TEK called the WS6. We have them in stock at a ridiculously awesome price for DVXusers.
