Rode NTG-1 Sound noise

I have done two interviews with this mic and I am getting a low grade crackling sound
that is pretty constant and is coming into my headphones. Thankfully I am backing up this mic with a hardwired lav. I tried switching xlr cables which doesn't seem to help. Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be my camera? I am using the HVX. Or does it sound like a short in the mic ?
 
Is the mic on camera? Is the clicking present in multiple environments? Is it there when played back on your NLE?

I finally got a chance to test it out on final cut and the crackling noise is still there.
Any thoughts ?
 
wabbit has a good question.

Using Final Cut, determine which of the 4 channels has the crackling noise. That will tell you which mic.
 
Try it on another recorder, mixer, camcorder whatever. If your still getting the crackling then I would suspect the mic. If there are any switches on the mic "exercise" them (switch them back and forth 15-20 times to clear off the contacts). If that doesn't help I think it's time to send it in to be looked at.
